Kahsay Kiros is an 18-year-old Ethiopian cyclist whose rapid ascent has made her one of the most exciting young talents in professional women's cycling. Born and raised in Adi Gudom, near Mekele in the Tigray region, she developed her elite climbing abilities training at high altitudes of approximately 2,250 metres.

Breakthrough Achievements...

Her journey transitioned from local dominance to the global stage through several landmark performances:
World Championships (2025): She gained international fame at the championships in Kigali, Rwanda, where she placed 7th in the Junior Women's Road Race. This remains the highest-ever result for an Ethiopian rider in a road cycling world championship.
african championship (2025): Held in Kwale, Kenya, she dominated the junior category by winning gold in both the Individual Time Trial (14km) and the Road Race.

Path to Professionalism....

Tsige Kahsay journey was supported by key figures and organizations that recognized her "rocket-like" potential:Scouting & Training: Initially discovered by a mechanic in Mekelle, she was later scouted for the UCI Cycling Centre (WCC) and trained with their European team in Brittany, France.Professional Contract: In late 2025, she signed a three-year contract to join the Generation development team starting in 2026. : She has been mentored by former WorldTour rider Tsgabu Grmay, the first Ethiopian to turn professional, who helped facilitate her transition to international racing.

Tsgabu Grmay (The Pioneer)

Tsgabu Grmay is regarded as Ethiopia’s most successful cyclist and a pioneer for the country in professional road racing.

Journey: Born in 1991 near Mekelle (Tigray region) at 2,400 meters altitude, he quickly dominated Ethiopia's small cycling scene.

Achievements: He became the first Ethiopian rider to turn professional, racing for 12 years in the WorldTour with teams such as Lampre-Merida, Trek-Segafredo, and Jayco-AlUla. He is a multiple-time Ethiopian time trial and road race champion.

Transition: Following his retirement from elite WorldTour racing, he joined Team Amani in 2025 to compete in the gravel circuit and coach young East African talent.
