14-YEAR OLD REJECTS MARRIAGE IN YAMBIO - POLICE CONFIRMS

A 14-year-old girl in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, has rejected a marriage to a 46-year-old man, prompting authorities to refer the case to police for investigation.

Officials from the State Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare say the girl was pressured by family members and community elders to accept the marriage despite her age and lack of consent. The man reportedly offered SSP 500,000, goats, and other items as bride price.

According to Inspector Oliver Paiyansi, after the girl refused the marriage, And now the man is demanding a refund of his SSP 500,000 or that the marriage be allowed to proceed.
