The Parliament of The Gambia ratified a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Circular Migration with the Kingdom of Spain during an extraordinary session held over the weekend. Two large canoes filled with hundreds of migrants were intercepted off the coast of Senegal by the Senegalese Navy, as the growing trend of irregular migration continues to grip the nation.
Despite the tragic loss of lives in recent boat accidents, more and more people are embarking on these perilous journeys.
The Navy's quick action on Monday prevented another potential tragedy at sea, but it highlights the ongoing struggle to curb this dangerous migration route.
Why do so many risk it all? The search for answers continues as families are left torn between hope and heartbreak.
