As part of our annual work plan titled "Capacity Building for staff, volunteers and partnership with communities, youth-led and NGOs." We held our first quarterly training titled "Green Action for Youth Activists," to educate team members about climate change and actions young people can embark on to mitigate and adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change in their communities.

The training brings together founding members, staff and volunteers of the organisation to engage in peer-to-peer mentorship facilitated by Tejan Bundu, an Environmental Chemist at Njala University in Sierra Leone . Participants were able to learn about Sierra Leone’s climate change, causes, effects and actions for a greener future.

Freetown Mudslide, August 14, 2017

A day Sierra Leone will never forget.

Eight years ago today, a quiet morning in Regent turned into one of Sierra Leone’s darkest chapters. After relentless rainfall, the hillside of Sugar Loaf gave way unleashing a torrent of mud, rocks, and debris that tore through homes and streets. In mere minutes, over thousands of lives were lost, thousands displaced, and an entire community forever changed.

This was not just a tragedy for Regent it was a wound felt across the nation. Families shattered, children orphaned, dreams buried beneath the flood of earth and sorrow. Yet in the midst of heartbreak, stood united. We mourned together. We prayed together. And we began the long, painful journey of rebuilding together.

Today, we remember every life lost.
We honor every survivor still striving to rebuild. And we renew our call for safer communities, responsible land use, and stronger protections for our people. Gone but never forgotten. Regent Community, Sierra Leone we remember you.

Weeks ago, we engage with some members at the displaced community at 6-Mile, Western Area Rural to discuss how they felt about the new environments they never dreamed of living. The Chairlady share her experience, challenges faced in times of adaptation, resources and many others.
