It's been well over a year since we took on the adventure of a lifetime. we never really posted much about it after the mission was complete. so here goes.
We covered 15,000km in a 1994 Renault G230 firetruck and participated in the rally. passing through 8 countries, including our own ๐ฎ๐ช. we crossed the finish line in freetown Sierra Leone.we made memories and seen places of the world we'll never forget. we also managed to bring supplies to schools and gyms that were welcomed with tears of joy.
The truck was an absolute peach all the way. we had a couple of minor hiccups, but nothing we had to write home about. we tested the durability day in day out in ever changing climates and conditions, and that g230 took it in its stride. it's a vehicle that will be with us all forever.
As a whole, it was an eye-opening experience, which really made us grateful for what we have. our absence from social media could have had better timing, but we'll be getting caught up with what's been happening starting with where we left off.

Stage 8 (06/02/24): Nouakchott to Richard Toll (350km+ : we chose to head further into Senegal to a place Eagle 1 and Adam had visited nearly 10 years ago!)
This stage brought us from Nouakchott (Mauratania), through a national park that ran alongside the Senegal River and eventually to the border crossing which took us into Senegal, where yes, the internet was limited but apart from that and a few curious police officers, we had no issues whatsoever.
After a few hours of driving through small villages, where we where met with nothing but smiles and waves from the locals, we parked up in St Louis, Richard Toll, grabbed a couple of supplies and headed off to camp where we met with Mami from Bien รtre Pour Tous where we made or first donations of, School supplies, Books, Clothing, medicines and toys for young children.
After meeting with Mami, we put the heads down ahead of stage 9 that had us driving 600km in 41ยฐC heat to Tambacounda.
Today (08/02/24) we're heading for Dindefelo.. there's also been a heat warning sent out so.. we can't see the temperatures being any cooler than they have been the last few days!!
Link to our GoFundme me is in our Bio and we are still Accepting donations for our two Fantastic Charities, The Laura Lynn Hospice and UNICEF!!

Stage 7 (04/02/24): Dakhla to Banc d'Arguin, 660km.
A 4am start and a 300km sprint to the Mauratanian border led us into a 2km queue to cross the border and nearly 24hrs of radio silence.
With the border crossing being more or less hassle free (apart from the long wait), we found ourselves in a UN buffer zone, still with no phone signal and all but a waypoint on our GPS maps to get to our next check-in, 360km away in Banc d'Arguin.
Given the situation, and taking a wrong leaving us buried in the sand, we made good time getting to the check-in!
We didn't hang about once we found hard ground to set up our and camping equipment that was kindly supplied to us by .
With the bellys full and cleaning done, we clocked off after a long 19hrs on the go.
UPDATE:
While writing this post, we got word that there is some political unrest in Senegal, where we are meant to heading for on Wednesday (07/02/24).
Were currently in Nouakchott, patiently waiting on updates from to see what's next!!

It's safe to say, between a late ferry departure, seas rough enough to put the bears arse to shame and the French doing what they do best and protesting, blocking off National Roads and Motorways, the European leg of our trip so far has been.. busy.. yeah we'll go with busy ๐๐
Our first stint came to an end in Bordeaux during the early hours of the morning after 750km and 11hrs driving, where the head was only on the pillow and we were up again!
We have another 750km run down to Madrid ahead of us today where we'll be channeling our inner Back Road Bandits, steering well clear of the protests to make up some of the lost time!!
Beacons on, verry busy!!

Safari Scenes Shakedown was a success!
From dealing with the four seasons throughout the course of day, low handing trees, tight squeezes and bog land that was so soft that when we got stuck, the vibrations from the truck idling alone where sinking it more and more!!
It was a learning curve to say the least.
We have new ideas and checklists so with our departure on the 25th of January now under 4 weeks away... the egg in the frying pan won't be the only thing flat out!!

Who would have thought you'd have to wet and dry a tent twice for it to be waterproof.. good thing we made a trip down to during the week to pick up kitchenettes and cooler boxes where we were kindly reminded to do this before the 27th ๐
We'll be putting the Swags to the test as well as ourselves and the capabilities of the Safari Scenes Fire Truck ๐
Also.. heard someone's cooking up some burritos.. and who doesn't love burritos ๐ฏ
