Well, some of its signs and and symptoms include: irregular inter-menstrual or abnormal vaginal bleeding after sexual in*******se, back, leg, and/or pelvic pain, fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite. It can also cause vaginal discomfort or odorous discharge, which may be watery, pink, brown, or bloody.

What Causes Cervical Cancer?
The primary cause of Cervical Cancer is the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that has 13 high risks types of cancer.
How can we protect our future generation? The Ministry of Health and its partners through the Expanded Program on Immunization has started a nationwide week long Mass Awareness Sensitization HPV Vaccination campaign. This will last till the 23rd November and it is meant for girls aged 11-18years. If you have a girl child within this age, kindly let her be vaccinated to have full time protection from the HPV.
This initiative is supported by the Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunization (GAVI) and brought to by NMDHR.

NMDHR Wraps Up the Pasting of Posters in Schools and Colleges in Western Area Rural Ahead of HPV-MAC Campaign
The Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has completed the pasting of informative posters in schools and colleges across the the North, North-West and Western Area Rural Districts ahead of the upcoming HPV-MAC Campaign, scheduled to take place from November 17th to 23rd, 2025. Among the colleges target were the College of Medicine and Allied Helath Scieces (COMAHS) and College of Theology.
The poster campaign exercise which lasted for two weeks forms part of NMDHR’s broader sensitization effort to raise awareness among students, teachers, and communities about the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive spearheaded by the Minstry of Health through the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and with support from GAVI, the vaccine alliance.
Speaking during the exercise, at Western Area Rural District, the Programs Director of NMDHR, Nabieu Kamara, said the initiative aims to ensure that accurate information about the HPV-MAC campaign reaches young people, especially school-aged girls who are among the primary targets for the HPV vaccine.
“Our goal is to educate and encourage parents, teachers, and pupils to support the upcoming vaccination campaign. The posters carry clear and child-friendly message on vaccine being safe, the campaign dates, girls targeted (11-18years) and benefits of immunization and where to access the vaccines during the campaign week,” said Mr. Kamara.
He emphasized that the posters are strategically placed in schools, colleges, and other learning institutions where young people can easily access the information. He further highlighted NMDHR’s commitment to complementing government efforts in promoting public health education, women’s health, and human rights advocacy.
School and college administrators welcomed the initiative, noting that such visual and informative materials help dispel misconceptions about vaccines and encourage wider participation during immunization campaigns.
The HPV-MAC campaign is a nationwide effort to protect children and adolescents from cervical cancer, ensuring a healthier future for all Sierra Leoneans.

NMDHR Engages Schools and Higher Learning Institutions in Kambia District Ahead of HPV-MAC Campaign
Kambia District, Sierra Leone – In preparation for the upcoming HPV-MAC Campaign scheduled for this November, the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has embarked on an extensive poster-pasting exercise across schools and communities in Kambia District.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the importance of the HPV vaccination in protecting young girls from cervical cancer. The posters carry clear messages encouraging parents, teachers, and community leaders to support the vaccination drive targeting girls aged 11-18 years.
According to NMDHR, the poster activity is part of a broader sensitization effort which started months ago to ensure that every parent and guardian understands the significance of the vaccine before the campaign officially begins. The exercise also complements NMDHR’s ongoing community engagements and school outreach sessions across other districts.
Speaking during the activity, NMDHR’s Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara emphasized that the HPV vaccine is safe, free, and effective, urging all eligible girls to take advantage of the opportunity during the vaccination week. NMDHR Rolls Out Poster Campaign in Schools in Port Loko District
The Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has continued the pasting of posters in schools and learning institutions across Port Loko District as part of its ongoing public sensitization drive ahead of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV)–Mass Awareness Campaign (MAC) scheduled for November 17th-23rd 2025.
The exercise, which targets both primary and secondary schools and learning institutions aims to raise awareness among pupils, teachers, and parents about the importance of the HPV vaccine in protecting young girls from cervical cancer. The posters contain vital messages encouraging vaccination for girls aged 11-18 years, surrounding the campaign.
According to NMDHR officials, the poster pasting is part of the organization’s broader community engagement strategy to ensure that accurate information reaches every corner of society, especially within school environments where many eligible girls can be reached directly.

NMDHR Spreads the MAC-HPV Sensitization Message # in Karene District
Karene District, Sierra Leone – As part of its ongoing public awareness drive ahead of the national HPV Multi-Age Cohort (MAC) vaccination campaign, the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) is continuing an intensive sensitization exercise in Karene District, pasting informative posters in schools and higher learning institutions while engaging pupils on the importance of the HPV vaccine.
The initiative forms part of NMDHR’s broader support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with the Expanded Program on Immunization, the DHMT and with support from GAVI in promoting the HPV-MAC campaign scheduled from 17th to 23rd November 2025, which aims to protect girls aged 9 to 18 from the human papillomavirus that causes cervical cancer.
During the engagement sessions, NMDHR visited several schools in Karene where they also held few interactive discussions with pupils, teachers, and school health clubs on the importance of the HPV vaccine. The pupils were encouraged to serve as ambassadors by sharing accurate information about the vaccine with their parents, peers, and communities.
According to NMDHR’s Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara the poster campaign and school sensitizations are designed to raise awareness and dispel myths and misinformation surrounding the HPV vaccine.
“Our goal is to ensure that every eligible girl in Karene District understands the value of taking the HPV vaccine and feels confident and informed to participate in the national campaign,” Mr. Kamara explained.
The posters, placed in strategic locations such as school walls, notice boards, and colleges, carry key messages including “Prevent Cervical Cancer. Get Vaccinated Now.”
Teachers and pupils expressed appreciation for NMDHR’s outreach efforts, noting that the posters will help remind them about the dates of the vaccination.
As Sierra Leone prepares for the nationwide HPV-MAC campaign in November, NMDHR continues to emphasize that community engagement, information sharing, and youth participation remain key to achieving full immunization coverage and protecting future generations of women.

NMDHR Engages Out-of-School Girls in Koinadugu District
The Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has intensified its community outreach efforts ahead of the upcoming HPV-MAC Campaign, scheduled for 17th to 23rd November 2025, by engaging out-of-school girls in Koinadugu District on the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination.
The engagement sessions aimed to educate and empower adolescent girls—particularly those not enrolled in school—about the dangers of cervical cancer, the benefits of early vaccination, and the need for girls aged 11 to 18 to get immunized during the national campaign week.
Speaking during the outreach, NMDHR Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara emphasized that reaching out-of-school girls is a key priority for the organization. “Many girls outside the school system are often left behind in health interventions. We want to ensure that every eligible girl, whether in or out of school, understands the importance of this vaccine and has access to it,” he said.
Participants learned about HPV as a leading cause of cervical cancer, the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, and the role of parents and community leaders in supporting girls to take the vaccine. The sessions also provided a safe space for girls to ask questions and dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the HPV vaccination.
Community leaders and women’s groups in Koinadugu expressed appreciation for NMDHR’s inclusive approach.

NMDHR PASTES POSTERS AT SCHOOLS AND TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS AHEAD OF HPV-MAC CAMPAIGN
The Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights (NMDHR) has commenced the pasting of informative posters in schools and tertiary institutions across Koinadugu District ahead of the upcoming HPV-MAC Campaign scheduled for 17th to 23rd November 2025.
The posters, which carry key messages about the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, aim to raise awareness among students, teachers, and parents, encouraging participation in the nationwide immunization drive targeting girls aged 11 to 18 years.
Speaking during the exercise, NMDHR Programs Director, Nabieu Kamara, said the initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing community mobilization efforts to ensure a successful HPV-MAC campaign.
“We are using posters to reach students and communities with the right information about the HPV vaccine. The goal is to ensure every eligible girl is aware and ready to take the vaccine when the campaign starts,” he stated.
