What a timely conversation.
It's worrisome that Africa is super dependent in direct and indirect Donor fundings on SRHR. Our Governments needs to realize the need to be deliberate in scaling up investment to more equiped SRHR Facilities, Training and Deployment of healthcare service providers, and address the huge gap of Stock Outs, among other areas.

PPASL trains young people as Social Mobilizers in the prevention of Covid-19 through the social media using national guidelines
The population of Sierra Leone grew by 3.2% between 2004 and 2015 from about 5 to 7 Million people.
Majority of the population is young people with eight out of ten people under 35 years old. About 41% are under the age of 15 and 62.5% under 25 years old. (Demography Health Survey 2019). These young people are confronted with huge challenges in this dynamic world.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted all aspects of young peopleโs lives, including their schooling, livelihoods and gender relations, as well as their access to youth-friendly s*xual and reproductive health (SRH) services. COVID-19 infection prevention and management measures like lockdowns, self-isolation, restrictions on movement etc appear, in many settings, to have had a significant impact on young peopleโs access to SRHR information and services.
This situation has seriously affected the overall socio economic development of youth/adolescents.
Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone (PPASL) one of the leading services provider of s*xual reproductive health and rights & services has capacitated 15 young people as Social Mobilizers in the prevention of Covid-19 through Social Media using national guidelines.
The training was held at PPASL Head Office in Freetown 1 Richard Street on the 12th January 2022. The trainees represented different communities in the Western Area.
These young people will serves as Mobilizers using different social media channels/platforms to disseminate s*xual health promotion/information and Covid-19 prevention messages.
Similarly, this training will help dispel myths and misconception surrounding the outbreak and spread of the Corona virus.
