Sierra Leone: Drones For Good support COVID-19 Response 17/04/2020

FIRST AERIAL USES DRONES TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE DURING THE THREE-DAY LOCKDOWN TO FIGHT COVID19

On Wednesday the 1st of April, His Excellency Rtd Brg Julius Maada Bio along with Ministers and National Authorities declared a three-day nationwide lockdown as a containment measure against the spread of COVID-19.

First Aerial in collaboration with The Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation - DSTI flew drones over Freetown to monitor the compliance of communities between the 5th and 7th of April.

Videos capturing communities were ranked on a scale of compliance from high to moderate to low. These videos were streamed live to drone operators and data from these drones were analyzed to rank communities.

Communities like Aberdeen, Congo Town, Murray Town, Jui, Kossoh Town, Kaningo, Regent Road Lumley were highly compliant.

King Jimmy, Fourah Bay Road, Wellington, Moeba Town, Waterloo, Brookfields, Hill Station were moderately compliant.

Kroo Bay, Looking town, Martomeh, Thompson Bay had very low levels of compliance.

From observations, non-compliance was because residents were outside fetching water. There was also disregard for social distancing directives.

The drone observation activities took place in a non-evasive way, personal privacy wasn’t violated, and reporting was channeled only to the appropriate stakeholders.

As Sierra Leone continues to fight COVID19 First Aerial is working closely with various partners to develop drone solutions for medical supply and community safety during the COVID19 response.

First Aerial urges all citizens of Sierra Leone to comply with the directives issued by the Ministry of Health and Office of the President.

TRACK YOUR BUILD, FIRST AERIAL, TRACK YOUR IMPACT & DECISION LABS STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE TO FIGHT COVID-19

We are sad to hear the president announce that Sierra Leone has registered a single case of COVID19. As stated by the President, this is not a lockdown but we must adhere to the procedures and restrictions enforced by national and local public health authorities. We must be strict in complying with the limitations that will be added to prevent the spread of the virus.

This is the time we must comply with all directives from the authorities. We must realize that working together to avoid hugging, shaking hands, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth will prevent COVID19. We must maintain social distancing, wash our hands frequently and practice respiratory hygiene. If you or a loved one experiences fever, cough and difficulty breathing; stay home, call local health authorities who will give instructions to follow. We can and we will beat the spread of COVID19 if we follow the rules and regulations.
