Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya has officially rejected the proposed Eco currency 💵 which supposed to be launched next year 2027 by ECOWAS. According to Mamady they prefer using there own currency which is the guinea franc which is more better for them than the Eco currency, this New ECOWAS currency which is to be used by all West African countries just like the euro 💶 which is also not okay in the eyes of Guineans.
Also some of the countries pushing for there new united currency are not economically stable and they want to be part of the change, but for guinea this is not developmental.
Guinea is the first country to reject it, maybe others will follow up.

🚨 OFFICIAL: ECOWAS Calls for Withdrawal of Guinean Troops from Liberia Border

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has called on the Government of Guinea to withdraw its troops from the Liberia–Guinea border in Lofa County and has ordered a fast-track technical assessment of the ongoing border dispute.

The decision was announced in the final communiqué of the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held on July 19, 2026, in Lungi, Sierra Leone.

According to ECOWAS, the assessment is intended to support a peaceful and lasting resolution of the dispute. The regional body also pledged to work with the Mano River Union (MRU), African Union (AU), and United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) to strengthen peace and stability in the Mano River region.

Peace is strengthened when nations choose dialogue over conflict and cooperation over confrontation ✌️

West Africa is set for a major economic milestone as ECOWAS moves towards launching its long-awaited single regional currency, the ECO, in 2027. 🌍💱

The currency is expected to strengthen regional trade, deepen economic integration and create a more unified financial system across the bloc.

Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who currently chairs the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, is expected to play a key role in advancing the region’s integration agenda, alongside leaders including Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ECO project, which has faced several delays since it was first proposed, aims to establish a common currency for ECOWAS member states and boost economic cooperation across West Africa.
