Sierra Leone is on the frontlines of climate change, and the time for action is NOW.
We are thrilled to appreciate our partners, including climate innovators and entrepreneurs for this weekend Climathon held in Bo.
Hosted by Projects1835 in partnership with Climate KIC, SMEDA, and GEF. This first one’s theme is "Flooding and Climate Resilience in Southern Sierra Leone."
We are calling on innovators, technologists, and problem-solvers to join us to build the resilient climate future and develop tangible solutions for flood resilience.
Let’s build a future where we don’t just survive the weather, but thrive despite it.

Today, 19th June 2026, marks a historic milestone for Bo City. We are officially hosting our FIRST-ever Climathon, a dedicated sprint to combat climate vulnerability through grassroots innovation.
This bold endeavor is powered by the steadfast support of SMEDA and Climate KIC, made tangible through a transformative grant from UNIDO and our diverse coalition of partners. We are profoundly grateful for this vote of confidence in our local ecosystem.
As we open our doors this morning, we are reminded of the core ethos that birthed Bo Innovation Hub. When we planted the flag here, our objective was never just to have a physical space, it was to cultivate a living, breathing nerve center for problem-solving. We wanted a place where complex issues are dissected, debated, and dismantled by the very people who experience them daily.
Today, as we prepare for the Climathon, it is a concrete proof that our original vision was not just aspirational but deeply practical. It confirms that Bo is ready to lead the charge in climate adaptation.
To the public, come witness history in the making. To our participants: the stage is set. Let's ideate, innovate, and build the resilient future Sierra Leone deserves. The time for action is now.

We are proud to serve as a host for convening a critical in-person workplanning session for the CATBIE project. Colleagues from Kenema, Makeni, and Freetown including the implementing agencies(SMEDA and Climate KIC) are here in Bo.
Remember, the CATBIE "Promotion of Climate Adaptation Technology and Business Model Innovations and Entrepreneurship in Sierra Leone" is a transformative initiative financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) , implemented by UNIDO, and executed by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA). Climate KIC serves as the technical project partner. The project aims to build a vibrant market for climate adaptation solutions in water, agriculture, and energy – empowering local innovators and helping vulnerable communities access the finance they need.
Cluster leads from across the country are in Bo for an in person engagement to move from strategy to action. One of the goals is to realign on workstreams, reflect on our learning journey, and co-create the next phase of implementation, including priorities, sustainability, fundraising approaches, and near-term action planning.
Bo Innovation Hub is proud to serve as the cluster lead and convener for this UNIDO-SMEDA-funded initiative. Together, w are building a more resilient Sierra Leone , one innovation at a time.
Stay tuned for updates on climate related interventions !
