🌍 New Training Announcement: Climate Change, Peace and Security Training

The Call for Applications has been opened for the Climate Change, Peace and Security Training, to be held from 26 to 29 October in Nairobi, Kenya.

In recent years, climate change has increasingly been recognised as a security concern and a global threat multiplier. Consequently, the United Nations has been actively calling for peace missions and operations to assess climate-related risks and develop strategies to manage these risks within their mandates. Given that the largest UN peacekeeping operations are deployed in Africa, and that most UN peacekeeping missions on the continent operate in conflict zones that are highly vulnerable to climate change, it is important for contingents and personnel deployed in these missions to develop a deeper understanding of the links between climate, peace, and security within the context of peace operations in Africa. With this in mind, the Peace Operations Training Centre (POTC) and the International Peace Support Training Centre Kenya. Ipstc-KENYA are organising this training.

👮 The training is intended for civilian experts, police officers, and military personnel - either currently deployed or preparing for deployment in UN peacekeeping missions and UN special political missions, as well as government officials working in peace and security from across the African continent.

Training Announcement: Climate Security Training in Kenya - 2026 POTC is continuing its cooperation with the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Kenya to deliver the Climate Change, Peace, and Security Training. The training will be held between 26 and 29 October 2026 at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Nairobi.

From classroom to the field: How do we deliver impactful, inclusive, and adaptive training in crisis management? 🌍

Organized by the Centre for European Perspective - CEP and the Peace Operations Training Centre – POTC under the auspices of European Union Training Initiative, this training is designed to equip trainers to transfer expertise clearly, inclusively, and responsibly across diverse and multifaceted operational cultures.

Participants will learn to master the full training cycle (ADDIE) and implement powerful, non-exclusionary communication approaches that dismantle hidden barriers to learning.

📍 Location: Jable Castle, Loka pri Mengšu, Slovenia

👥 Target Group: Primarily police and civilian trainers/instructors involved in preparing personnel for national and international missions. It is also highly relevant for military experts, mission personnel, and professionals who regularly facilitate workshops or group processes.

Priority will be given to participants from EU Member States.

On 9 June, we were proud to host the First Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans Roundtable on UN Peace Operations. Co-organised by the Peace Operations Training Centre (POTC) and the Ministrstvo za obrambo RS/Slovenian Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the UN Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM), this high-level event marked the beginning of a regional process.

The roundtable brought together representatives of states, the United Nations, partner institutions, and academia

The goal? To foster deeper regional cooperation, improve operational preparedness, and explore how peacekeeping training centres can adapt to the rapidly evolving demands of 21st-century conflicts.

Among the many insights shared by the participants, one overarching message stood out to us:
💬 Investment in training is one of the most cost-effective forms of support to UN peace operations. Maintaining readiness today is less costly than rebuilding capabilities tomorrow.

🚀 The First Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans Roundtable on UN Peace Operations has officially kicked off in Grad Jable, Slovenia!

Organised by the Ministrstvo za obrambo RS/Slovenian Ministry of Defence, the Peace Operations Training Centre - POTC, and the Centre for European Perspective - CEP, in cooperation with the UN Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM), this high-level event gathers senior officials, UN entities, and regional training centre representatives.

Slovenia has been a dedicated contributor to international peace operations since 1997. During its mandate on the UN Security Council (2024–2025), Slovenia actively contributed to discussions on the future of peace operations. Building on this engagement and experience, this "regional-plus" roundtable serves as a platform to address the future of peacekeeping. As major missions like UNIFIL transition into drawdown phases later this year, contributing countries in the region are actively re-examining their mid- and long-term strategic priorities.

The key aim of the event is to provide a platform for:
👉 Policy dialogue on future regional engagement in UN peace operations,
👉 Discussing the evolving role and sustainability of regional peacekeeping training centres, and
👉 Debating opportunities for strengthened regional cooperation and coordinated support beyond personnel contributions.

🤖 On Tuesday, the focus was on humanoid robots in the armed forces 🤖

The fifth seminar on Disruptive Military Technologies and Practices provided participants with insights into the current state of development of humanoid robot systems worldwide and explored their possible roles in the armed forces of the future. The seminar included a practical demonstration with 3 robots that exhibited once-unimaginable skills that will disrupt the way we approach defence, and, with it, peace and security.
