🦖 A paleontological discovery in Australia is rewriting the history books! 🇦🇺💥

Think we knew everything about Cretaceous apex predators? Think again! A research team from Monash University and the Museums Victoria Research Institute just proved that the prehistoric landscape of Gondwana looked completely different from what we previously imagined.

Fossils uncovered from the Strzelecki and Eumeralla formations in Victoria (108–121 million years old) revealed the oldest known megaraptorid in the world and the very first confirmed evidence of carcharodontosaurs in Australia. Surprisingly, in Australia, it was the megaraptors that grew into massive 7-meter-long apex predators! 🦴🔥

This finding is a huge boost for Australia's geological and paleontological heritage, drastically changing our models of theropod evolution and distribution across the Southern Hemisphere.
