MBS is a Swedish company who produces photoelectron spectroscopy instruments & systems.

Last week, we visited the recently upgraded MBS A-1 #0027 at the I21 beamline, Diamond Light Source — originally delivered in 2016. The A-1 #0027 features motorised lens control in both along-slit and across-slit directions.

The MBS A-1 brings spatial imaging (beam spot size) and surface characterisation, including high-resolution core-level spectra and momentum–energy mapping.

Thank you I21 group for your trust in MBS!

We are at HAXPES 2026 in Oxford, UK from April 13–17. Welcome to stop by and talk with us about our MBS A-1HE analyser, designed for high-performance hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the MBS “Dynamis” pre-focus lens, developed to improve electron collection and transmission efficiency for ambient pressure research — or anything else you’re interested in. We’re looking forward to meeting you in person.

The Super Wide Momentum mode has now been installed on another MBS A-1 analyser. The test was carried out during an MBS team visit to Saga University, Japan from March 11–13. Measurements were performed at a kinetic energy of 105 eV using a graphene on SiC (Gr/SiC) sample.

The upgrade of A-1 #0012 enables measurements for a broader momentum range.

Today at the office, we celebrated a special milestone: 25 years of MB Scientific. We are proud to support the scientific community with cutting-edge instruments. Over these years, we have faced many challenges, but we have overcome them through innovation, dedication, and teamwork. We look forward to the next 25 years.

Happy birthday, MBS!

Yesterday, we took a fika break to enjoy the Swedish "Semla" tradition. Between daily tasks and development work, we also made time for a relaxed moment together at our Uppsala office — and yes, the semlor were as good as they look in the photo 😋!

Last week, we successfully tested the MBS Image Spin system of the MBS A-1 #0037 at the University of St Andrews (UK). Using an Au(111) sample, measurements along the ±X direction clearly demonstrate the spin contrast.

During the same time, we also said a "hi" to the L-1 #0037 and TM-1 #0024 systems. 😃

Last week, we were at the I21 beamline at Diamond Light Source (UK), working on the return of the MBS A-1 #0027 analyser to our factory. After nine years in operation, it’s great to welcome the A-1 #0027 back for an lens upgrade and the next chapter of high-performance ARPES mapping operation. 🤩

Wrapping up our final business trip of 2025 on a high note!
Last week, we visited NanoTerasu, working with our A-1_ Image Spin Analyser. The calibration using MBS AMTD (Angular Mode Test Device) went extremely well, making this site visit a great success.

We’re truly happy to end the year with such positive results. It’s exciting to think that this analyser will help reveal electron spin structures and support our customers’ research, pushing science forward. 🚀

Great thanks to Prof. T. Sato, Prof. S. Soma, and everyone in the group at AIMR, Tohoku University, for their kind support and excellent collaboration!

Dear Customers, Collaborators, and Friends, How has your 2025 been? I hope this message finds you well, and that the past year has brought you good health and moments of joy.

Here in Sweden, challenges remain, and globally, conflicts continue to escalate. The business environment has also become more uncertain, shaped by both rising costs and political instability, which makes running a company increasingly demanding.

Still, my team at MBS and I hold firm in our belief that science is a driving force for a better world. We remain proud to produce and supply high-quality research instruments to scientists in the free world, confident that science helps move us closer to global peace.

At MBS, we continue working towards a vision of sharing—where technology helps us overcome conflict and competition for resources. Supporting science in its mission for collaboration and peace is at the heart of what we do.

On a personal note, Peter and I began personal training this year, which helps us stay in good shape. At the same time, we are fortunate to work with a younger generation in our MBS team who are eager to learn and increasingly ready to take on responsibilities. This blend of experience and new energy keeps our company moving forward.

As our team grows, so does our determination to keep customers at the forefront of their scientific endeavours, even in challenging times. We will continue to develop and improve our products, striving always to deliver the highest quality instruments as efficiently as possible.

I warmly wish you a joyful festive season with your loved ones, and a Peaceful & Prosperous New Year 2026.

With my sincere thanks,
December 2025, Uppsala
