Singers at Joseph Pilates Studio – by Jonathan Grubb
Issue #487-488 Wednesday, May 6 and 13, 2026 Singers at Joseph Pilates Studio - by Jonathan Grubb The Pilates Method of exercise is widely known to have been historically synonymous with the dance world. However, it is less well known that many professional singers also went to Joe’s studio. Whilst dancers often initially went to Joe to seek help with injuries, the singers generally attended Joe’s two or three times each week for strength and conditioning work....

Large-Group Reformer – The End of Pilates as We Know It — or a New Beginning? – by Matthew Ryan Carney
Issue #485 Wednesday, April 15, 2026 Large-Group Reformer The End of Pilates as We Know It — or a New Beginning? by Matthew Ryan Carney Due to my side hustle as a reformer repairman, and teaching part-time at multiple studios, I have been fortunate to meet many Pilates professionals here in my new city of Sydney, Australia. When I tell studio owners that I teach large-group reformer classes around the city, up to 30 people, they often cringe — wrinkle the nose, furrow the brow — and proceed to tell me exactly how they feel about it....

The Depth You Teach Is the Depth You’ve Gone – Part 2 – by Clare Dunphy Hemani
Issue #483 Wednesday, March 17, 2026 The Depth You Teach Is the Depth You've Gone Part 2 by Clare Dunphy Hemani In Part 1, we explored how teaching can flatten into autopilot when we stop deepening our own practice—how we can only truly teach what we've genuinely embodied, not just memorized. We looked at why burnout often stems from losing our sense of discovery rather than from overwork itself, and how self-assessment reveals not failures but the exact territory where our next breakthrough lives....

The Space Between the Exercises: Rethinking Transitions in Pilates by Tabatha Russell
Issue #478 Wednesday, February 4, 2026 The Space Between the Exercises: Rethinking Transitions in Pilates by Tabatha Russell In Pilates, much attention is given to what we teach, the exercises, the order, the apparatus, the cues. Far less attention is given to how we move between those exercises. And yet, it is often in the transitions, the quiet, uncelebrated moments between the work, that the integrity of the method is either reinforced or slowly unraveled....

Taking a Look at the Boomerang – by Tricia Whitlock
Issue #476 - Wednesday, December 3, 2025 Taking a Look at the Boomerang by Tricia Whitlock One of the reasons I enjoy writing for Pilates Intel is because it gives me a reason to look ever closer at the Pilates method - its logic, its depth, and the way each exercise reveals something new when examined with attention. Each article becomes an invitation to look more deeply into the Pilates system, sharpening my own understanding while hopefully offering something valuable to this community of readers....
