Roger Risberg was born in Gothenburg in 1956 and studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Konstfack, in Stockholm between 1979 and 1984, where Lars Hillersberg was among his teachers. He is best known for his powerful and emotionally charged paintings of figures and animals, executed in a direct, rough-hewn style that is sometimes reminiscent of graffiti and recalls the visual world of Keith Haring.
In the early 1980s, Risberg developed a highly personal and uncompromising artistic language in which themes such as love, togetherness, loneliness, and abandonment frequently reappeared. He achieved his major breakthrough in the late 1980s with expressive paintings in black and red, combining exhilaration and anguish through naively depicted, totemic animals that became recurring symbols of vulnerability and strength.
Roger Risberg has held several major solo exhibitions and is represented in collections including Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum, Bonniers Konsthall, and the Gothenburg Museum of Art.

This themed auction presents a curated selection of works by Mauritz Karström (1962–2005), an artist with a distinctive and instantly recognisable visual language, characterised by intense colour and an intuitive approach to image-making.
His paintings are marked by vibrant hues and a spontaneous working process, where abstract and figurative elements emerge freely, unconstrained by convention. Working across media such as pastel, watercolour, gouache and oil, Karström often combined techniques to create surfaces rich in movement and vitality. Figurative motifs recur throughout his oeuvre—appearing in bustling, densely populated scenes or as solitary figures—forming a vivid and highly associative visual universe.

Vaasa-born Yngve Veli Päiviö Bäck is celebrated as one of Finland’s most accomplished colourists. In this themed auction, works by Bäck are presented through a variety of motifs, most of them originating from the artist’s own collection.
Bäck studied at the Finnish Art Society art school and the University of Helsinki Art Room from 1923 to 1925. Afterwards he moved to Paris where he studied at the École des Métiers d’Art from 1957 to 1958. French influences can indeed be noticed in Bäck’s art inspired by the 1930s post-impressionist movements. Bäck was inspired by the works of for example Pierre Bonnard, Edóuard Vuillard and Henri Matisse.
From 1941 to 1944 Bäck worked as a teacher in the Free Art School. In 1956 he took part in establishing the Prisma-artist group focusing on colour art and the structure of the form. Other members of the artist group included for example Ragnar Ekelund, Sigrid Schauman, Sam Vanni and Unto Pusa. Bäck was granted the Pro Finlandia-medal in 1960.

Discover works by John Bauer in Bukowskis’ themed auction.
Throughout his life, John Bauer drew inspiration from the forests and landscapes of his childhood in Småland. In his art, the Swedish wilderness is transformed into a mythical realm where trolls, elves, and fairy-tale creatures emerge from rocks, trees, and mist-covered forests.
Although influenced by early German and Italian painting during his studies, Bauer soon returned to the Nordic fairy-tale world that became his artistic hallmark. His illustrations for Among Gnomes and Trolls (Bland tomtar och troll), first published in 1907, established him as one of Sweden’s most beloved illustrators. The golden-haired princess featured in many of these works was inspired by his wife, Ester.
