🎙️IT Talks 289: From containers to AI-driven infrastructure

In this episode, Per Stene returns to the podcast to share an update on Kubernetes, OpenShift, and container platforms, four years after his previous visit.

The conversation explores how Kubernetes has moved from being an emerging technology to becoming a standard part of modern IT environments. At the same time, these platforms have grown more complex, more costly to operate, and more critical to business operations.

Per also discusses several important trends shaping the field, including edge computing, air-gapped environments, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code. He explains why many organizations are also reassessing the role of their own data centers, particularly in relation to security, control, and digital sovereignty.

Another key topic is the growing role of AI in Kubernetes operations. From monitoring and troubleshooting to more automated platform management, AI is beginning to change how these environments are run. Kubernetes is unlikely to disappear, but developers will increasingly interact with it through higher-level abstractions rather than managing every layer directly.

We are joining Chalmers University of Technology’s interdisciplinary project “Chalmershindret” as a mentor. Through this course, students gain hands-on experience by working on a real-world project in measurement technology and data analysis.

By taking on this mentorship role, we aim to support Chalmers’ vision of encouraging more women to pursue futures in technology and IT. The project will conclude during the 50th anniversary of the Gothenburg Horse Show.

🎙️ IT Talk: Why Europe is investing in open source and digital autonomy

In this episode of IT Talks, researcher Johan Linåker explores Europe’s digital dependency and why digital sovereignty has become a strategic priority. He argues that full digital autonomy is unlikely in an interconnected world, but that Europe can and should reduce its exposure to non-European cloud providers and global supplier lock-in. The conversation covers geopolitics, open source, data control, and why digital infrastructure is now considered as critical to society as energy, water, and food.

🚀 New SFMC quick tip from Nils Johansson: a practical way to find a Data Extension when the native search bar does not return results.

Using two simple URLs, you can search both sendable and non-sendable Data Extensions without any setup, API keys, or browser extensions, and go directly to the Data Extension’s properties page.

If you regularly work in Contact Builder, this can save time and make it easier to locate the Data Extensions you need.

Digital sovereignty is about understanding where your data lives, who controls it, and what happens if access is restricted or systems go down.

As interest in European cloud providers continues to grow, more organisations are assessing how their current platforms are structured and what alternatives are available within Europe.

The purpose is not to replace every system at once, but to create clarity. That includes knowing where data is stored, which legal frameworks apply, and how resilient your digital environment is.

It's not about fear — it's about awareness.
