Autistic Misrepresentation in Autism Research: An Open Secret | Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science 20/03/2023

A great read on
„Autistic people are everywhere, but the general public has no idea who autistic people really are. […] When you find out you’re autistic, you now finally have language to replace “quirky, shy, bold, difficult, too much, intense, thorough, detailed, stubborn, brutally honest.” All of that can be wrapped up in how the world sees you, has treated you in the past, has judged you, and how it still does.“

Autistic Misrepresentation in Autism Research: An Open Secret | Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science helps professional scientists, researchers, and graduate students to explain their work and its significance clearly and vividly to their target audiences.

Autistic psychiatrists are an asset to medicine — but we need to better support them | Spectrum | Autism Research News 22/01/2023

„The types of accommodations that some autistic doctors request usually concern nonclinical aspects of work and are easy to implement with little to no cost. For example, some may need supervisors and managers to clearly communicate the job role and expectations, whereas others may have sensory needs — for example, using earplugs or headphones if the office or ward is particularly busy and noisy. Most accommodations don’t require a formal neurodevelopmental label or diagnosis, and they can often benefit everyone.“

Autistic psychiatrists are an asset to medicine — but we need to better support them | Spectrum | Autism Research News Autistic psychiatrists report experiencing prejudice, stigmatization and career barriers during their training and day-to-day practice. Workplaces can make some simple adjustments to better support them and enhance equality and inclusivity.

Hire for potential to attract super talents 25/02/2020

Trekking in the Himalaya got me thinking...about potential vs. track-records.

Hire for potential to attract super talents I booked a trekking trip in the Himalaya a few weeks back, with the ambition to supercharge the good and the too little, and offload the bad and the too much. I figured this to be a task much more easily carried out away from daily analog and digital distractions.

How do we recruit on potential rather than primarily on merits? On development, creativity and innovation potential?
Can organisations do away with job titles (hint: they probably should look into it)? Can mandate exist without job titles? How well (or bad) are change-makers and friction-drivers perceived in organisations?
How can exponential and multipotential talents help organisations drive change and innovation?
How can organisations build kindly and authentic environments to attract a diverse pool of talents?
What is the place of purpose in talent and organisation development?

These were some of the questions discussed during our workshop with Local Glimpse on “Exponential, multipotential talents: recruiting to accelerate innovation and growth”. The sold-out event was a great short dive in the subject matter Exponential talents. Stay tuned! We will be back for more!
