🌊Tackling marine plastic pollution with AI-driven innovation: EU–India Ideathon on Marine Plastic Pollution winner, developed a solution addressing a critical issue.

🔍 The challenge
Floating plastic waste—bottles, packaging, and debris—continues to accumulate across rivers, lakes, and oceans. These materials persist on the surface, spread rapidly, and are difficult to remove. If not intercepted early, they degrade into microplastics, creating long-term ecological damage.

✅The solution
The winning team designed a semi-autonomous floating surface cleaning system powered by AI.
– Onboard cameras and vision models detect plastic waste in real time
– Each detection is geo-tagged, enabling tracking and mapping of pollution hotspots
– A mechanized collection system removes debris directly from the surface
– Data is synced to a cloud platform for analytics and optimized cleanup planning

This combination of , , and environmental intelligence allows for scalable, data-driven plastic removal—far beyond traditional methods!

Currently in our accelerator Build for Earth, the solution is in early prototyping, focused on validating the technology through real-world testing.

🌟TrashTrek App was one of the standout winners from the EU–India Ideathon on Marine Plastic Pollution in Bhubaneswar, and we’re proud to support their next stage of growth.

🌟What is TrashTrek?
TrashTrek connects people who want to contribute to a cleaner environment. Through the app, users can report littered locations or document their own cleanups with before-and-after photos. All cleanups and reported locations are shared on a public map, making environmental action visible and collaborative.

A key feature of TrashTrek is gamification. Collected waste is converted into points that users can exchange for small rewards — helping turn everyday cleanups into a fun and motivating challenge.
