What can we learn from Silicon Valley?

In this first of three conversations historian David Larsson Heidenblad and tech analyst Björn Jeffery discuss the ideas that have shaped the tech companies of today.

How does life in Silicon Valley work? What can you learn, and use, from these ideas in your daily business? And what can the fairly short but very influential history of the California ecosystem tell about the future of innovation and technology?

During Vinterfesten 2025, we organised a Community Horizons seminar where 12 participants from organisations across sectors shared a change they see,
a signal they’re noticing, and a future they long for in their work. Once again, it became clear to us that the future isn’t somewhere else. It is shaped here and now by the choices we make, and by the courage we give one another to make them.

The first installment of Summer Block Party was a blast! We organised the 100-meter Lunch Table and worked as a coordinator for the 38 organisations that hosted 50+ events.

We’re already looking forward to be a part of this next year. Mark June 12, 2026 in your calendar.

Summer Block Party is a collective effort by the local community in the area around Universitetsholmen, Varvsstaden, and Dockan in Malmö. Organised by ABC Södra Varvsbassängen, with support from the Malmö City of Malmö.

The ”Visions of the Futures We Build” exhibition was celebrated with an opening seminar. It features four visions for a sustainable built environment, and is open at Form/Design Center until March 16.

We want to evolve what an annual futures gathering can be. We want to build on our Collaborative Foresight approach. We want to better understand what folks who take part in The Conference need. We need to look at the long arc of hosting a gathering in our brilliant and rapidly-changing city, Malmö. And we want to be courageous in pausing and reflecting, and owning the ambiguity of not knowing, together.

We are taking a pause – The Pause – to actively sense, test and participate in gatherings to understand how we want to gather in professional contexts and how we build agency, confidence and capacity to shape the futures we want to see.
