With all best-of-lists getting released out there, we are super happy every time Cursed cruise gets mentioned, and that it managed to make a good impression!

By a coincidence I happened to listen to the latest Dream Theater album and this new Soniq Circus record right after each other. And hardly notice the transition! Sure, the instrumental beginner ”Unbegun” stands out with it’s crusher riffs and themes as taken from King Crimson’s songbook. But the 16 minute long ”Let the game begin” is like a continuation of Dream Theater’s sister epic ”The shadow man incident”. The similarities aren’t total though. Among other things, the Soniq Circus vocals are more rough and as we will hear during the album, the music is characterized by a roughly axed nordic aura. Think Beardfish and you’ll end up right.

Soniq Circus has many advantages to them. Among their musicians they have a thorough guitarist in the Steve Howe like Marcus Enochsson and a splendid keyboardist in virtuoso Marco Ledri. But above all they have a strong, often dark, always dramatic song material. You’re never bored in the company of Soniq Circus. And in the end the band from Skåne carves their own nische in the expansive tree of rock music.
