11th EDF EPA Project equips over 40 Seychelles Revenue Commission staff with Training of trainers and E-Learning training skills.

Last week, forty-nine Seychelles Revenue Commission officers completed a Training of Trainers and On-the-job training, which was hosted by the European Union funded Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Project. The training program was designed to equip SRC staff with the requisite knowledge, skills, and techniques for developing and organizing well-structured training as well as conducting thorough assessments and evaluation of various aspects of training. The training modules covered Principles of adult learning, Training strategy development, Interactive methods of instruction, Communication and structured questioning techniques, Presentation skills and tips.

Participants in the training were drawn from the SRC Training Department, Tax Department, Human Resource Department, Legal Department, as well as the Customs Division. The training was delivered over a range of one-day and four-day training sessions from 12th to 28th September 2022, depending on the participants’ training needs and level of training expertise. A Senior Training expert, Ms Biljana Kosturanova, was engaged by the EPA Project to provide the TOT training.

An additional one-day training Introduction to E-learning via MOODLE educational platform was delivered to some of the participants by a Senior E-learning expert Mr. Maher Alsedda. By the end of the training workshops, the trainees were able to demonstrate practical application of their newly acquired knowledge and skills in the delivery of different training methods for engaging participants and keeping their motivation high. In addition, the trainees also demonstrated their ability to develop, present, and deliver training materials in a structured, understandable, and interactive manner.

Overall, the training was provided as part of broader support aimed at improving the training and communication skills of SRC as to enable officers and taxpayers make efficient use of the new Tax and Customs IT tools being developed by the EPA project that will soon be introduced.

In a bid to ensure suitability of this capacity building intervention, the EPA project will facilitate follow up assistance in specific training and mentorship of the trainees so that they are able to transform conventional training material into e-learning material.

To recognize the participants of the training, this morning a certificate presentation ceremony was held at SRC's Headquarters.

The EPA Project supporting SRC on the development of a new Tax Management System

The trained 13 Seychelles Revenue Commission staff in the World Customs Organisation Harmonised System ( HS) and domestic regulations.

The training enhanced the SRC Staff’s capacity to classify traded goods with the right HS codes and perform their duties better in the respective HS related areas.

To ensure the sustainability of this capacity building intervention, 2 SRC officers have been equipped with skills in “training of HS trainers” and are now able to develop, adapt and update HS training material.
34 additional SRC staff will be trained in HS via the EPA Project e-learning platform.
