International Day of the Midwife is celebrated annually on 5 May, providing the opportunity to honour the work of midwives, and promote awareness of the crucial care that midwives provide to mothers and their newborns.

Midwives are central to the prevention of maternal and newborn deaths, and stillbirths. Their contibutions are pivotal for the Sustainable Development Goal target of reducing the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100 000 live deaths before 2030.

On this occasion ASSF would like to extend its gratitude to its midwives namely Ms Jerina Adelaide and Mr Jimmy Helene for their valued contributions in delivering high standard SRH clinical services to the Seychelles population.

Let’s give these vital and cost-effective contributors to high-standard maternal care the attention they truly deserve.

Zero Discrimination Day is celebrated on March 1st marking the importance of living life with dignity. This year, WHO is highlighting the right of all people to live healthy, full and productive lives with dignity regardless of their HIV, viral hepatitis or sexually transmitted infections status. “Remove laws that harm, create laws that empower”, is this year's theme whereby UNAIDS is highlighting the urgent need to take action against discriminatory laws . Laws that discriminate is one of the major barrier to access to SRHR services. Such laws result in people being treated differently, excluded from essential services or being subject to undue restrictions on how they live their lives, simply because of who they are, what they do or who they love. Such laws deny human rights and fundamental freedoms. Everyone one has sexual and reproductive rights and everyone should be able to enjoy those rights

ASFF in collaboration with Youth Health Centre shall be conducting an awareness activity to commemorate National Condom Week on Saturday 19th February 2022 from 9am to 12pm. There shall be condom demonstration and distribution. Our team shall be there to answer all your questions regarding condom use as means of prevention from STIs and unwanted pregnancy.

Condom week is celebrated from 14th to 21st February. It is a week to celebrate the impact that condoms have had on shaping sexual and reproductive health care. Condoms, both internal and external, give individuals autonomy and empowerment in their sexual and reproductive health.
Learning about barrier methods like external and internal condoms is an important first step in taking control of your sexual health. The more you know about and feel comfortable talking about the topic, the easier it will be to have conversations with current and potential partners about why using condoms feels like a good choice for you.

Happy Condom Week!🙂
