The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has successfully concluded the 2025 Credit Corporation Secondary School 15s Rugby Competition, with a prize presentation ceremony held on Friday at Town Ground Rugby Stadium.
The season marked another milestone in SIRUFโs commitment to strengthening school-based rugby development across the country. Total of five secondary schools showcased impressive skill, discipline and determination throughout the competition.
Competition Results
1st Place (Champions): Honiara High School โ securing a back-to-back title
2nd Place: Koloale Community High School
3rd Place: White River Community High School
4th Place: King George VI National Secondary School
SIRUF Competition Manager, Mr. Watshawn Purotu acknowledged the collective effort behind the successful competition.
โWe sincerely thank Credit Corporation Solomon Islands Ltd for their major sponsorship, the teachers and sports masters for preparing their teams, the match officials for their fair judgments, volunteers, and our medical team for safeguarding the welfare of all players. To the student athletes, your passion drives the future of Solomon Islands rugby. We also appreciate our media partners for promoting this competition,โ he said.
In addition, SIRUF Vice President Technical, Moses Tepai, highlighted the long-term vision for school rugby.
โThis competition reflects the growth of our young athletes, these players are the future. Credit Corporationโs goal has always been to โfund futuresโ, and we believe rugby has contributed to that this season. We plan to form a national U19 squad to compete in Oceania Rugby events, and we call on Oceania Rugby to host a U19 competition for Tier 3 nations so that clear pathways continue for our schools,โ Tepai said.
Furthermore, Mrs. Alafina Zima Katovai from Credit Corporation Solomon Islands Ltd expressed the organisationโs pride in supporting the program:
โIt is an honor to stand here as the major sponsor. What we witnessed is more than rugby, it is a movement involving schools, communities, and young athletes. Rugby teaches resilience, leadership, and respect. To the players, coaches, referees, and organisers, thank you for your dedication. We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting school rugby across the countryโ.
SIRUF encourages schools, communities and partners to continue supporting youth rugby programs as the federation strengthens pathways for the next generation of Solomon Islands rugby players.

The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has successfully concluded its final Get Into Rugby (GIR) / T1 Rugby Festival, bringing together six participating schools in a vibrant display of skill, teamwork, and growth.
According to the GIR Coordinator Mr. David Siapu, the festival showcased the remarkable progress of young players who have been part of SIRUFโs rugby development program over the past four weeks.
โThe boys have shown great improvement in their understanding of rugby basics, which was evident during their tag rugby matches,โ the coordinator said. โFor the girls, the development is also encouraging, while we noted a few forward passes during the T1 sessions, itโs clear that they are picking up the game well and applying what theyโve learned.โ
The GIR/T1 program, which has run successfully throughout the year, focuses on introducing school students to rugby through fun, safe, and structured sessions. It aims to build interest, confidence, and foundational skills among young players creating pathways into competitive rugby.
Looking ahead, SIRUF plans to continue the momentum into 2026 with targeted school visits and a renewed emphasis on team registration and player retention. The initiative will ensure consistent participation and strengthen the base for future school rugby competitions.
SIRUF also acknowledges itโs hardworking Volunteer coaches and the invaluable support of its partners World Rugby , Oceania Rugby and PacificAus Sports through the Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands, whose continued investment and collaboration made this event and the wider GIR/T1 program possible.
The final festival not only capped off a productive development season but also reaffirmed SIRUFโs commitment to nurturing the next generation of rugby talent in the Solomon Islands.
