Matthew Wale has been elected as the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands following a secret ballot held this morning.
Wale is the leader of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party and has served as Member of Parliament for Aoke Langa Langa since 2008.

MPs have begun arriving at the National Parliament ahead of today’s election of the new Prime Minister.
The Helt Expo is currently underway at Lawson Tama Stadium from May 11–16, 2026.
The event offers free health screenings, wellness education, nutrition advice, and safety demonstrations to the public.
Community members are encouraged to stop by before the expo wraps up on May 16, 2026.
