Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed comments at the Washington post.
As we approach the 2024 U.S. elections, the echoes of previous political turmoil resound. The heightened rivalry between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris illuminates the profound divisions within the society. After witnessing last election's emotional upheaval, you’ve resolved to approach it with a clearer perspective. Crying over elections will no longer define my experience; instead, you recognize the importance of understanding our differences without succumbing to frustration.
At the core of this election lies a battle over economic realities that resonate with countless Americans. As inflation rises and living costs strain families, Harris must grapple with an increasingly disenchanted electorate. Disillusionment with institutions fuels skepticism of the political elite, as average citizens feel disconnected from the priorities shaping their lives. Meanwhile, U.S. foreign policy from Ukraine to the Middle East affects narratives woven into the very fabric of domestic discourse. Military conflicts often overshadow pressing economic issues, perpetuating a cycle where political decisions serve elite interests over those of the general public.
We stand at a crossroads that mandates reflection on how political campaigns are financed and prioritized. It is incumbent upon both candidates to articulate visions that encompass not only domestic urgencies but also their implications on international relations. As voters seek authenticity and resolve, media narratives must shift toward elevating the voices of ordinary Americans rather than sensationalizing conflict.
Ultimately, this election must transcend partisanship: it requires a renewed commitment to nurturing unity within our divided nation. By prioritizing the needs of all citizens, regardless of their differences, we can foster a more equitable future at home and robust engagement abroad. In shaping the outcome of the 2024 elections, let us embody a vision that embraces collaboration over division one where hope, understanding, and progress flourish despite our challenges.

Navigating the Crossroads: Challenges for Arab American Voter Engagement in a Complex Electoral Landscape
Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed Comment at the Washington post
As the election draws near, the stakes have intensified, with significant foreign policy matters overshadowing domestic concerns. Issues such as the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza dominate discussions, often relegating internal divides to the background. Former President Donald Trump argues that his approach to these crises would be more effective, while Vice President Kamala Harris aims to ease suffering but remains largely tethered to existing policies. Both candidates are competing for the Arab American vote, yet their historical actions raise doubts about their genuine commitment to this community.
A pressing question arises for voters: should they favor a return to what they view as strength under Trump, or risk further national discord? Recent polling indicates a shift among Arab American voters. While many recognize Trump’s closer ties to the Israeli government, dissatisfaction with the Biden administration's response to military actions in Gaza and Lebanon has led to reconsideration of votes. Despite traditionally supporting the Democratic Party, this demographic appears to prioritize the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reflecting an emotional engagement highlighted by escalating tensions since October 7.
The U.S.'s ongoing support for Israel—manifested through arms sales and opposition to ceasefire initiatives—exacerbates these sentiments. Even though Arab Americans comprise a small fraction of the electorate, their influence in swing states can be decisive. Additionally, concerns loom that future administrations may pull back from international commitments, echoing past colonial dynamics.
Vice President Harris faces a substantial hurdle in connecting with Arab voters, especially in pivotal states like Michigan. Her vow to “end the suffering” resonates, yet her commitment to military support for Israel creates distrust. Economic concerns, coupled with the financial implications of military spending during challenging times, prompt scrutiny of wealth concentration and its ties to thriving defense contractors.
Ultimately, Arab American voters find themselves at a complex crossroads as they navigate the interplay between foreign policy interests and traditional party allegiances. A nuanced examination of the stakes in these geopolitical conflicts is essential to understanding their repercussions on both American society and international relations.

Shifting Loyalties: Arab American Voter Sentiment and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed comment at the Washington Post
Recent polls reveal a notable shift within the Arab American community: despite perceiving Donald Trump as more supportive of the Israeli government than Vice President Kamala Harris, many Arab Americans express a willingness to support Trump in the upcoming election. This change reflects deep dissatisfaction with the Biden administration's handling of the military campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon. In a marked departure from their historical alignment with the Democratic Party, Arab voters seem to prioritize the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over pressing domestic issues such as the economy or cost of living.
As one participant insightfully remarked, “While most of us here in the Arab world might be indifferent… clearly Arab voters in America feel strongly about the handling of the Gaza crisis since it erupted on Oct. 7.” The ongoing U.S. support for Israel, characterized by arms sales and the blocking of ceasefire efforts at the UN Security Council, only intensifies this sentiment. Although Arab Americans make up just 1 percent of the electorate, their votes could be pivotal in closely contested races, especially in swing states where margins are often razor-thin.
Concerns also arise regarding the next U.S. administration’s potential disengagement from international commitments, reminiscent of the post-WW2 era of British dominion and suggesting a shift in geopolitical priorities. The relationship between leaders like Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and the U.S. president often prioritizes personal and political interests over humanitarian concerns, influenced heavily by special interest groups, including those within the military-industrial complex.
The military strategy known as "mowing the grass" exemplifies Israel’s cyclical approach to engaging with Palestinian militants, perpetuating violence without addressing foundational issues. Recent actions, such as the assassination of resistance leader Yahya Sinwar, raise significant questions about future stability and the potential for escalated violence. With U.S. military expenditures—such as the THAAD missile systems—carrying exorbitant costs and implicating the U.S. as a co-belligerent, the regional conflict becomes even more complex.
As taxpayers shoulder the financial burden of these military investments, critical questions emerge about wealth concentration amid widespread economic challenges. The implications of this “cutthroat capitalism” are profound, particularly as corporations like Lockheed Martin benefit from increased military spending in an ever-unstable region.
In summary, Arab American voters navigate intricate political landscapes, weighing their foreign policy grievances against traditional party loyalties. The interplay of military interests and humanitarian crises necessitates a thorough examination of the true beneficiaries of these conflicts and their far-reaching impacts on both international communities and American society.

The Transformative Influence of Gender and Arab American Perspectives in the 2024 Election
Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed comment at the New York Times
While gender may be the defining issue, it's seldom addressed directly by key candidates such as Vice President Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. The election serves as a referendum on the role of women in American society, underscoring how crucial this discussion is in a nation that feels increasingly divided. Many voters long for a leader who symbolizes unity and strength, reflecting past presidential ideals.
Analytically, Trump’s potential victory might restore a sense of prestige to Washington, yet the specter of an angry Trump versus a perceived weak Harris continues to leave a void in leadership.
Intriguingly, recent polls highlight a shift within the Arab American community. Despite recognizing Trump’s closer ties to the Israeli government, many are considering his candidacy as a reaction to dissatisfaction with Biden's handling of the Gaza crisis. This marks a significant departure from their historical alignment with the Democrats, suggesting that foreign policy perspectives may outweigh domestic issues like the economy for this demographic. As one participant noted, the emotional response to the Gaza situation is palpable among Arab voters, showcasing their unique position within the electorate. Despite representing a mere 1 percent of the voting population, their influence could prove pivotal in closely contested states.

Why Gender May Be the Defining Issue of the Election https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/23/us/politics/harris-trump-election-gender.html?smid=tw-share
Why Gender May Be the Defining Issue of the Election The issue is rarely directly addressed by either Vice President Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. But the 2024 contest is, in ways overt and subtle, a referendum on the role of women in American life.

From Shame to Blame: The Emotional Landscape of Rural America
Comment by Turki Faisal Al Rasheed
Neglecting rural development is a persistent issue, often overlooked by politicians who prioritize urban interests. This neglect breeds frustration that can be harnessed by demagogues and populists. Historically, when urban population’s riot, it's different from the rural response, often escalating into chaos and theft. A deep examination reveals that the motivations behind conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan stem from profit motives, rather than a true fight for democracy or freedom. Corporations benefit while soldiers pay the ultimate price.
The rise of Donald Trump can be traced to a sense of decline among rural, non-college-educated white voters who feel overshadowed by their urban counterparts. As this demographic grapples with economic hardship, shame turns to anger. Many blame themselves for their misfortunes, a sentiment exacerbated by negative societal perceptions. This “pride paradox” drives them toward political figures who resonate with their frustrations.
Trump has skillfully transformed shame into blame, using a ritual of defiance that speaks to those feeling marginalized. By challenging the critics and redirecting their anger, he has managed to consolidate a loyal base that perceives him as a protector. Moving forward, it is essential to address these emotions and the underlying economic disparities to bridge the growing divide within the nation.
How Trump Weaponized White Rural America’s Shame Trump’s masterful ability to shift shame into blame pushed white working-class America to accept his turn to the right.

Did Kamala Harris Truly Dominate Trump in the Debate?
Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed weighs in at The Washington Post. Kamala Harris
Yes, Harris delivered a commanding performance against Trump, but the critical question remains: will it make a difference? In our deeply divided nation, the significance of debates is often uncertain. With polls showing no clear frontrunner and anxiety lingering across the country, the stakes have never been higher.
Harris’s sharp and steady performance on Tuesday alleviated some doubts about her resilience. However, both candidates must navigate this race carefully, as any missteps could be costly.
As we approach voting day, we must confront essential questions: Are voters ready to support a woman? Are they open to electing a candidate who embodies diversity? This election will provide clarity on these pivotal issues.
Let’s not forget: Trump, a felon, should have no place in the White House. As we advocate for peace—especially in light of the ongoing Gaza conflict—we must firmly reject violence and the escalation of warfare, particularly when so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet.
Together, let’s strive for a brighter future!
Analysis | Harris dominated Trump in debate, but will it matter? In Tuesday night’s scorching debate, Harris tried to keep Trump on the defensive. But with polls showing no clear leader, the race may stay tight until the end.
🌟 Kamala Harris: A Beacon of Hope in Challenging Times 🌟
Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed’s insightful commentary in The New York Times underscores Kamala Harris’s potential to shape America’s future amidst ongoing political upheaval. While she echoes the commitments of her predecessor, Joe Biden, Harris brings a fresh, intellectual perspective to the transatlantic relationship and is backed by a formidable network of advisors and think tanks.
Her astute criticism of Donald Trump’s actions regarding a congressional border bill showcases her strategic approach—turning the tables and utilizing his own ego against him.
As she carves out her identity as a candidate, the stakes are undeniable. Facing Trump provides a compelling narrative: the prosecutor versus the felon, the vision of the past clashing with the promise of the future.
It’s imperative to remember that Trump, a felon, should not have a place in the White House. We must work towards peace, particularly in light of the ongoing Gaza conflict, and firmly reject the perpetuation of violence.

Saudi Arabia’s Transformation: Uncertainty and Sustainability
By Dr. Turki Faisal Al Rasheed
"Embracing the road to development is the only viable way ahead for nations like Saudi Arabia, as demonstrated by the kingdom's unwavering commitment to transformation."
Saudi Arabia is on an ambitious path of transformation with the National Transformation Program (NTP) and the Saudi Vision 2030 programs. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the G20 goals, Saudi Vision 2030 aims to create a promising future for the country. This forward-thinking blueprint for progress has made a significant difference for the Saudi people and the world.
Unlike historical American foreign policy approaches that often prioritized economic and political interests, Saudi Arabia's focus is on development and progress. In contrast, the United States has at times disregarded global peace in favor of sustaining its economic might. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, in his farewell address, warned about the dangers of the military-industrial complex and emphasized the need to prioritize essential needs over armaments. This sentiment contrasts sharply with the developmental aspirations seen in Saudi Arabia today.
Introduced in April 2016, Saudi Vision 2030 aims to transform the country into a vibrant society, thriving economy, and ambitious nation. This plan emphasizes human development and sets a path towards a brighter future. While any program to transform a nation will face challenges, difficulties, obstacles, and risks, the will and positive results often support the transformation and overcome the hurdles. The kingdom's finances may face pressure due to delays and scale backs, but history has shown that such challenges are part of the transformation process.
After years of careful study and authoring a book on Saudi transformation, it is evident that the quest for development is deeply institutionalized. With sustainable development goals at the forefront, Saudi Arabia is on an irreversible path forward, setting a progressive example for the Arab world. Embracing the road to development is the only viable way ahead for these nations, as demonstrated by the kingdom's unwavering commitment.
When Saudi Vision 2030 was first introduced, many were shocked at the scale of the projects and the cost involved. However, six years later, it is clear that some projects have been scaled down and the implementation period extended. While there may be some belt-tightening in the coming years, the outcome will undoubtedly be spectacular.
Despite experiencing significant economic strain, Saudi Vision 2030 remains on track. The kingdom has faced budget deficits for six consecutive quarters and has become the largest issuer of international debt among emerging markets. This financial pressure has been further exacerbated by the decision to cut oil production, which has not resulted in the expected increase in export revenues. However, experts believe that the kingdom has the flexibility to modify or delay investments in its colossal Giga-projects to manage the financial stress.
It is essential to understand that the current financial challenges are for the greater good. In the past, Saudi cooperation with American interests has often come at significant sacrifices for the kingdom. Despite providing geopolitical support and backing wars and conflicts that served U.S. interests, Saudi Arabia did not always see reciprocal benefits. The strained relations, highlighted by the activation of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) and the NOPEC law, underscore the complexities and one-sided nature of this alliance.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia's commitment to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) aligns with its pursuit of sustainable development goals and regional stability. Although the kingdom's budget may continue to experience deficits, domestic giants like the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Aramco are expected to bear a significant portion of the financial burden associated with the visionary projects. Despite financial hurdles, Saudi Arabia's path toward development has inspired other nations in the region to pursue genuine development rather than mere political rhetoric.
To confront the challenges ahead, it is crucial for nations to work together and encourage the spread of inspiration for genuine development. Saudi Arabia's transformation journey is one of uncertainty and sustainability, and it serves as a beacon of hope for a better future in the Arab world and beyond.
