this platform provides all materials required for understanding simple and advanced genetics My name is Alyaa Rakha. Graduated from faculty of science.

Currently, I am studying genetics as a master student. I have always been passionate about genetics and related fields. Also, I am good at illustrating science in a simple and detailed manner.

Basics about DNA Methylation and its applications 07/02/2023

Epigenetics is the change in gene expression without the change in its sequence.
DNA methylation is the most common epigenetic mechanism.

This vedio describes some basics about DNA methylation and its applications

Did you know that human s***m cells do not normally transmit mitochondria? Nevertheless, mitochondria are only transmitted to an embryo via oocyte.

That's why maternal lineages can be traced with mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence information.

Genetic chimerism-chimera 24/01/2023

Being a chimera, her DNA profile showed that the children she gave birth with were not her own!

This video discusses the phenomenon of genetic Chimerism, causes and real stories for chimeric people.

Hi guys!
just like sphinx. chimera refers to a single organism composed of cells with more than one distinct genotype.

A simple example is someone who performed an organ transplantation. This person becomes a chimera for having two different sets of DNA.

stem cells: potency, types and applications 17/01/2023

Stem cells vary according to their potency.
Totipotent stem cells can give rise to the whole by cells in addition to the placenta, but the unipotent can differentiate only to one cell type.

This vedio discusses stem cells, their potency, types and a breif overview about induced pluripotent stem cells and their applications.

insensitivity caused by FAAH gene and FAAH-OUT mutation 16/12/2022

The insensitivity caused by gene mutation is not a theory!
A patient with insensitivity was diagnosed with a mutation in FAAH-OUT and FAAH gene
Here are the mechanisms by which a mutation can cause insensitivity

Do you know FAAH gene?
This gene regulates many neurotransmitters in our bodies.

The interesting point here is that a mutation in that gene can cause lack of sensation!

05/12/2022

Pseudogenes are nonfunctional segments of DNA that resemble functional genes.

Most of them arise as copies of functional genes, either by DNA duplication or by reverse transcription of an mRNA transcript.

micro RNA - transcription and mechanism of action 04/12/2022

Do you know how can micro RNAs regulate gene expression 🧬🤔?

Here's the miRNAs mechanism of action explained simply in 3 minutes.

All of us know that miRNA can inhibit gene expression by binding to the mRNA.
But did you know that miRNA can also bind to DNA and inhibit transcription of a gene?
