A wonderful and appreciated article RwandaHealthMagazine RwandaHealthMgazine on our hashtag National Emergency Dispatch and Ambulance system. https://www.rhn.rw/rwanda-health-magazine/rwanda's-912-emergency-line-to-transform-health-care-response
From the article:
What sets 912Rwanda apart is not just its technology, but its origin. Built by Rwandan engineers and health experts, the system reflects local realities such as low smartphone pe*******on and limited GPS coverage while leveraging global best practices.
A senior emergency physician at University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), praised the system’s clinical impact: “We’re seeing fewer delays, better triage, and improved survival rates. It’s a game-changer for emergency medicine in Rwanda.”
“Before 912, we would wait 30 minutes or more for an ambulance, and sometimes they’d go to the wrong place,” said Claudine Uwimana, a mother of three in Kicukiro. “Now, help arrives faster, and they know exactly where to take you.”

The 912Rwanda impactful system platform was designed and built by the Rwanda Build Program, but only with strong support and leadership from the Rwanda SAMU Division of RBC & Ministry of Health, and with the international global health partnerships of Sudha Jayaraman MD MSc FACS of University of Utah Health Center for Global Surgery, Professor Justine Davies of Global Health Research & Applied Health Sciences University of Birmingham, and support from the local University of Rwanda & UGHE.
Our appreciation for this great article!

🚑 Big news from RWBuild in Kigali: Phase 2 of 912Rwanda.com has launched!
After 1+ year of development, Rwanda’s national ambulance dispatch platform just leveled up. Here’s what it means for patients, hospitals, and Africa’s future in health tech.
Built by Rwandan developers at RWBuild, in partnership with SAMU dept of Ministry of Health Rwanda, Rwanda Biomedical Centre, University of Birmingham & NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), and University of Global Health Equity, 912Rwanda is proving that African-led innovation can transform emergency care. This software is one of the most advanced solutions built in Rwanda. Phase 2 adds powerful new tools:
- Advanced Patient data entry and tracking
- Smart hospital/patient-matching logic (DDSA)
- User-friendly hospital dashboards with advanced data
All are designed to save lives by speeding the patient to the right hospital based on patient data.
Phase 1 already digitized Rwanda’s emergency response with GPS tracking, dispatch apps, and facility alerts.
Phase 2 takes it further: integrating data, hospitals, and decision support into a truly national system.
UGHE played a critical role in testing the final product and training SAMU staff - ensuring the technology is matched by strong human capacity.
Global partners believe this model (hashtag ) could save millions of lives worldwide.
