At the ongoing IAFS2026 in Sofia, Dr Charles Karangwa today delivered a presentation highlighting Rwanda as Africa’s next regional forensic hub and a strategic destination for international forensic collaboration. He emphasized Rwanda’s unique model of an independent forensic institution integrating cross-cutting forensic disciplines under one entity — a rare approach across many African countries in the forensic science domain.
Dr. Charles is leading the Rwandan delegation participating in , currently taking place at the National Palace of Culture.

Day 2 of continued in Sofia, Bulgaria, bringing together forensic experts and justice professionals from different countries. Rwanda continues to take part in discussions focused on improving forensic science and the use of scientific evidence in justice.

Rwanda is participating in the Triennial Meeting of the International Association of Forensic Sciences ( ), taking place from 24–30 May 2026 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The prestigious global event brings together forensic leaders and professionals from all over the world.

Yesterday, The State Minister in ministry of sports, Hon. Ngarambe Rwego, paid an official visit to the Rwanda Forensic Institute (RFI) to explore potential areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and RFI, including the establishment of a Doping Control Laboratory in line with international sports standards.
During the visit, Dr. Charles Karangwa, Our Director General, presented the Institute’s mandate and a wide range of forensic services. He also led the Honorable Minister on a guided tour of RFI facilities, providing insights into the existing forensic infrastructure and technical capacities available at the Institute’s premises.

We are proud to announce that Kigali-Rwanda is now a Candidate to host 2029 International conference.This is a world class leading forensic conference that brings thousands forensic leaders and institutions world wide.
The conference has never been hosted in , and this bid represents a historical first for our continent.
