Transforming Play
Offering non-directive, non-interpretive Play Therapy sessions - for children aged 3-12 years
Play Therapy is based on the premise that play is the child's natural medium of self-expression. It is an opportunity which is given to the child in a safe, supportive & non-judgmental environment, to 'play out' his/her feelings and problems (just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual 'talks out' his/her difficulties). A variety of techniques & materials are used including:
• Music

Some great advice!
" I go into nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order." - John Burroughs
With Lockdown restrictions still present I set off again today for yet another walk, another adventure in nature. I love adventures but I was lacking motivation at first with the yearning of wanting something different other than what I've done the last 7 weeks.
But there is something magical about nature's way to sooth the soul and calm anxieties. It was quite. It was cool. It tantalises all of my senses. Nature never ceases to amaze and create wonder. There is in fact a whole science going on in this moment that has many therapeutic benefits.
So I am here to advocate, if you or your child/ren are feeling frazzled or fragile I would highly recommend a wander in your local bush or public garden.
And as you do
Take a deep breath,
ground yourself on the earth
Pause and be still.
Then begin to notice the sounds of wildlife and beauty around you.

My latest challenge - training a therapy dog! Her first day on campus with kids was today and she was a champion.
She visited some 9th and 10th graders during their lunch break and one commented, “I feel so happy now. She has made my day.” Another agreed that seeing her was, “the best part of today”.
Job done, I’d say. Made my heart so happy.

Unfortunately we will be beginning our new school year online, and given the health regulations in Rwanda, it’s highly unlikely I will have the chance to work with my kids individually and in person again until next year. However, I am enjoying the opportunity to improve my tech skills a bit and am looking forward to the kids visiting my virtual play room and (hopefully) enjoying the different activities.

Today’s project - finishing off some wood blocks for the playroom. Keen to add more sustainable nature play elements.

This!
It's still a tricky time for many and it's ok to feel all the feels, all at once.
