Today Rwanda remembers. 🕯️
April 7, 2026 — Kwibuka 32.
32 years since the Genocide against the Tutsi. More than one million lives lost in 100 days.
The Flame of Hope burns for 100 days — a symbol that remembrance is alive, and that Rwanda continues to choose healing over hatred, unity over division, life over death.
At Purpose Rwanda, we see every day how trauma travels across generations. The addiction, the mental health struggles, the broken families we serve — many trace their roots to wounds that began long before our beneficiaries were born.
Healing Rwanda means healing all of Rwanda — including the parts that are still hurting quietly.
We remember. We recommit. We rise together. 🇷🇼💚

PREVENTION OVER CURE: Teaching Rwanda's Youth to Protect Their Futures

Over the past weeks, Purpose Rwanda has shared our "3 Shields Against Addiction" framework with thousands of young people across Rwanda.

Week 1: We introduced the shields
Week 2: We explained the "why" behind each one
Week 3 (this week): We challenge them to LIVE it

The 3 Shields:

🛡️ AUTHENTICITY - Not just knowing who you are, but BEING who you are
🛡️ WISE FRIENDS - Recognizing that those around you actively SHAPE your future
🛡️ POSITIVITY - Understanding that it's a DAILY CHOICE, not just a mindset

Why does this matter?

At Purpose Rwanda, we've walked with 500+ individuals on the addiction recovery journey. Our peer-led PAT model has achieved a 70% success rate—more than double the global average of 30%.

But here's what we've learned: Prevention is always better than cure.

That's why we're investing heavily in youth prevention programming—reaching 4,000+ young people annually with these practical, life-saving shields.

Every choice they make today = their shield tomorrow.
