Concluding this month’s AMIR Member Outreach activities in the Eastern Province, the Chief Executive Officer of AMIR, Jackson Kwikiriza, visited Akagera SACCO Kayonza, the District SACCO of Kayonza District, where he was received by Butera K. John Baptiste, Chairperson of the Board, Samuel Nsengiyumva, Managing Director, together with other senior staff members.

He also visited Umucyo SACCO Rwamagana, the District SACCO of Rwamagana District, and was welcomed by Usanase Jolie, Chairperson of the Board, Nkurunziza Jacques, Managing Director, and other senior staff members.

During discussions with both institutions, the CEO of AMIR commended their continuous efforts and commitment to serving their members and contributing to the socio-economic development of Rwanda.

The CEO also received and documented key issues raised by the institutions for further advocacy by AMIR with the relevant stakeholders.

AMIR Member Outreach is an initiative designed to strengthen partnerships between AMIR and its member institutions, present AMIR’s interventions and strategic role within the financial sector, and identify areas where the Association can provide targeted support and advocacy.

This outreach covered member institutions across Bugesera, Ngoma, Kirehe, Kayonza, and Rwamagana Districts.

Continuing the AMIR Member Outreach activities in the Eastern Province, the Chief Executive Officer of AMIR, Jackson Kwikiriza, visited Abahizi SACCO Ngoma, the District SACCO of Ngoma District, where he was received by Nkinzingabo Joseph, Chairperson of the Board, Mwenedata Fulgence, Managing Director, together with other senior staff members.

He further visited Intaganzwa SACCO Kirehe, the District SACCO of Kirehe District, and was welcomed by Thacien Nasagambe, Chairperson of the Board, Habiyambere Gilbert, Managing Director, along with other senior staff members.

Discussions with both institutions focused on the KATAZA Project, which is currently being implemented by the two District SACCOs. The institutions highly commended the project, which is implemented by AMIR in partnership with BRD, Mastercard Foundation, and other consortium members, and aims at financing youth-owned MSMEs, particularly young women.

They also shared updates on the current status of the project, noting that it has already started benefiting many young people operating in the agriculture, tourism, and hospitality sectors.

During the discussions, the CEO of AMIR encouraged the institutions to continue supporting youth and women through inclusive financial services while embracing innovation and digital transformation to strengthen their competitiveness within the evolving financial ecosystem.

The CEO also received and documented key issues raised by the institutions for further advocacy by AMIR with the relevant stakeholders.

Today, the Chief Executive Officer of AMIR, Jackson Kwikiriza, conducted an AMIR member outreach visit to COOJAD-Bugesera, a non-District SACCO operating in Bugesera District. He was received by the Chairperson of the Board of COOJAD-Bugesera, Dr. Edward Munyaburanga, together with Mucyeza Denyse, Manager of COOJAD-Bugesera.

Thereafter, he visited Ubudasa SACCO Bugesera, the District SACCO of Bugesera District. He was welcomed by the Chairperson of the Board, Mr. Rugambwa Emmanuel, and Mazimpaka Pierre Claver, Managing Director of Ubudasa SACCO Bugesera, along with other senior staff members.

During discussions with both institutions, the CEO of AMIR commended their continuous efforts and commitment to serving their institutions and contributing to the development of Rwanda in general. He also encouraged them to embrace digital transformation and innovation in order to remain competitive within the evolving financial ecosystem driven by emerging technologies.

In addition, he presented AMIR’s interventions aimed at supporting the microfinance sector and encouraged the institutions to take advantage of the available opportunities to strengthen and grow the sector successfully.

The CEO also received and documented key issues raised by the institutions for further advocacy by AMIR with the relevant stakeholders.

AMIR Member Outreach is an initiative designed to strengthen partnerships between AMIR and its member institutions, present AMIR’s interventions and strategic role within the financial sector, and identify areas where the Association can provide targeted support and advocacy.

The outreach activities will continue this week in Ngoma, Kirehe, Kayonza, and Rwamagana Districts.

Today, the Chief Executive Officer of AMIR, Jackson Kwikiriza, held a productive engagement with Uwambayingabire Claudine, Managing Director of Muganga SACCO, and her delegation aimed at strengthening financial inclusion for Rwanda’s Community Health Workers (CHWs).

The discussions explored a transformative partnership that places Rwanda’s 58,000 Community Health Workers at the center of inclusive financial services.

During the meeting, both parties discussed how Muganga SACCO’s financial products can be better aligned with the needs of Community Health Worker cooperatives, recognizing that Community Health Workers are the backbone of Rwanda’s healthcare system.
Ensuring they have access to financial services tailored to their needs is not only good economics, but also a strategic investment in the health and well-being of every Rwandan community.

AMIR successfully conducted the 18th Ordinary General Assembly of AMIR Members today at Sainte Famille Hotel under the theme:

“Building a Resilient and Inclusive Microfinance Sector in Rwanda.”

The General Assembly focused on key issues including:

Promoting financial inclusion and usage;
Advancing inclusive finance, especially for women;
Encouraging the adoption of technology in daily transactions and financial services to address emerging technological challenges in the microfinance sector.

During the meeting, the contribution of various partners supporting the microfinance sector, including , .sparkassenstiftung , and other stakeholders, was highly commended.

The Assembly also welcomed 8 new members into AMIR and adopted important resolutions aimed at strengthening both the microfinance sector and AMIR as an institution.

Representatives from and the (BNR) appreciated the important role played by AMIR and recognized its impactful initiatives that continue to support the development of the microfinance sector in Rwanda.

AMIR remains committed to promoting an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable microfinance sector for the socio-economic development of Rwanda.

Today, AMIR in partnership with DSIK Rwanda successfully conducted the WE Finance Code Awareness Workshop, convening over 100 financial professionals, policymakers, and development partners to advance women’s financial inclusion in Rwanda.

Held under the theme “Driving Women’s Financial Inclusion: Aligning Institutions with the WE Finance Code,” the workshop fostered meaningful dialogue and practical solutions.
Dr. Moise Bigirimana, Ag. Executive Director of the Financial Sector Development and Conduct Directorate at was the guest of honour, emphasized the need for strong policy frameworks and institutional accountability, while Silvia Heer, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy to Rwanda highlighted the enduring Germany–Rwanda partnership in promoting inclusive finance.

The Chairman of the AMIR Board, Gatera Damien, alongside the Executive Director, , showcased impactful initiatives such as the SERVE Project and Kataza Program, expected to create over 134,000 dignified jobs for youth—including nearly 100,000 for women—while expanding access to affordable financial services.

Insights from panelists across MINICOM, BRD, Women in Microfinance, and women entrepreneurs underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and tailored financial solutions.
In closing, Mr. Silas Ngayaboshya, Director General for Gender Promotion and Women Empowerment Directorate at , called for stronger gender mainstreaming and collective action.

Women entrepreneurs also expressed appreciation to GIZ Rwanda for advancing Women’s Economic Empowerment, with a powerful testimony highlighting real progress in access to finance.

The workshop reaffirmed a shared commitment to aligning with the WE Finance Code, strengthening partnerships, and building a more inclusive financial ecosystem for women in Rwanda.
