iLead Rwanda

Yesterday, our team, led by Program Manager Alexander, trained staff champions at Ngarama Rehabilitation Centre, one of the National Rehabilitation Service - Rwanda (NRS) centres, on the iLead curriculum, implementation approach, book management, and the Change Your World program.

Alexander also shared words of encouragement with the students, reminding them that they still have the opportunity to make positive choices and build a future that ensures they never have to return.

Today, we facilitated the first iLead lesson, officially launching this transformative leadership journey.

Following the technical meeting between the iLead Rwanda team and the National Rehabilitation Service - Rwanda Team last week, on Tuesday, our team, led by our Program Manager Alexander, visited Gitagata Rehabilitation Centre to train 21 staff champions on the iLead curriculum, implementation approach, book management, and the Change Your World program.

Later, we introduced 49 trainee facilitators to the iLead Program and equipped them to support their fellow trainees throughout the journey.

Yesterday, we facilitated the first iLead lesson, marking the beginning of this transformative leadership journey at Gitagata.

Technical meeting on iLead implementation held today at NRS Head Office, Karongi. iLead Rwanda Program Manager, Alexander and Program Coordinator, Sarah, together with the National Rehabilitation Service - Rwanda Leadership Team led by the DG Mufulukye Fred, discussed practical steps to roll out iLead in 4 centres to onboard 8,300 youth during July–August.

This will be followed by a pilot phase to onboard 4 preliminary rehabilitation (formerly Transit) centres. Orientation for all 166 centre staff, who will serve as “Njye Mpisemo” Champions, will take place over the next two weeks.

The Director General of the National Rehabilitation Service - Rwanda, Fred Mufurukye, and the iLead Rwanda Program Manager, Alexander Ndamukunda, met today to discuss restarting the iLead Program in rehabilitation centres. They reflected on a highly successful pilot phase that cut recidivism from 23.5% to 8% and achieved 94.2% traceability of participants after reintegration, clear evidence that values-based leadership training can produce measurable, lasting change.

In light of the ’s rehabilitation system restructuring, iLead will expand into preliminary rehabilitation centres in every district to scale these positive outcomes and continue equipping young people with the skills and values needed for sustainable community reintegration.

Today, the iLead Rwanda team gathered for an impactful Reflection Meeting to evaluate our journey over the 2025–2026 academic year and strategise for what’s next. From celebrating our students' completion and graduation to diving into our digital transition, it’s been a year of incredible growth!

Happy Holidays!

Today, the iLead Program team facilitated the orientation for Cohort 3 of the Bike for Future (B4F) Project, implemented by Africa New Life in partnership with Plan International Rwanda.

Following a transparent selection process conducted in partnership with local authorities, 20 young women and men officially began their journey toward vocational skills development in different trades.

The orientation introduced participants to the project's vision, expectations, safeguarding principles, and the support systems that will accompany them throughout their training. The team also emphasised three foundational values that will shape their journey:

-Choice – Making responsible decisions.
-Teachability – Embracing opportunities to learn and grow.
-Self-Discipline – Developing consistency, accountability, and strong character.

As Cohort 3 embarks on this exciting new chapter, we celebrate their commitment to growth and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will create in their communities.
