The New Normal
The “New Normal” we explored was in response to dramatic shifts in geopolitics, finance, media, and the parameters of truth.
Emerging technologies and processes have so thoroughly infused the fabric of our cities that to even think about ‘urban design’ now requires a fresh understanding of how these new processes work, and in what ways they might be challenging our shared cultural, economic and political fabric. Geoff Manaugh and Nicola Twilley return to the Strelka Institute for a virtual launch of their new book, "Until Proven Safe: The History and Future of Quarantine." Since their visit to Moscow in August 2019 to discuss the spatial politics of quarantine, the world has been plunged into a pandemic with, at one point, more than half the world's human population in some state of quarantine or lockdown. Now, with the publication of their book, Manaugh and Twilley will join us again to look at some of the implications of COVID-19, from ethics to architecture, as well as to explore the future of quarantine—on the Earth and beyond. The event is free and will be followed by a discussion with Benjamin Bratton, Program Director of The Terraforming at the Strelka Institute.
