Wynonna Judd – Sweet Dreams (Patsy Cline Tribute) (2024) 11/06/2026

πŸŒ™ The night Patsy Cline recorded Sweet Dreams in 1963, she reportedly held up her first record next to it and said: "here it is β€” the first and the last."

A month later she was gone, killed in a plane crash. She never heard the song on the radio. In 2024, Wynonna Judd stood on Cline's own home stage at the Ryman and finally gave it the live homecoming Patsy never got.

Some performances are more than performances. What's one that stopped you cold?

Madonna – Confessions II: The Film (2026) 11/06/2026

πŸͺ© Most artists drop a music video. Madonna premiered hers at a film festival.

Confessions II – The Film had its world premiere at Tribeca on June 5, with Madonna sitting down with Jimmy Fallon afterward β€” then landed on YouTube three days later. It's a single continuous 10-minute piece built around the first six songs of her new album, out July 3.

When was the last time a pop release felt like an event?

Lynsey de Paul – Sugar Me (1972) 11/06/2026

🀍 Happy birthday in heaven to Lynsey de Paul, born June 11, 1948.

She came to music sideways β€” a commercial artist who became one of Britain's first major female singer-songwriters, an Ivor Novello winner, a Eurovision performer, and the first British woman to top a chart with a song she wrote herself. Sugar Me was where it all began in 1972. She left us on October 1, 2014, but the catalog she built β€” sharp, melodic, entirely her own β€” keeps her voice present.

Remembering a genuine trailblazer today.

Blue System – DΓ©jΓ  Vu (1991) 10/06/2026

🎧 Here's the thing about the "Blue System sound" that took fans years to fully understand.

That huge, glossy chorus voice? Mostly not Dieter Bohlen. The soaring lines came from three uncredited studio singers β€” Rolf KΓΆhler, Michael Scholz, and Detlef Wiedeke β€” while Bohlen sang the verses and ran the production. DΓ©jΓ  Vu is one of the cleanest examples of that hidden architecture at work.

Once you know, you can't un-hear it.

Deep Purple – Highway Star (1972) 09/06/2026

🎸 Ritchie Blackmore almost never planned his solos. Highway Star was the exception.

He worked the whole thing out at home before the sessions, building it on a descending progression he compared to Bach. Jon Lord's organ answers it in kind β€” two classically-minded players going full volume. It basically wrote the blueprint for neoclassical metal guitar.

Share this with someone who still air-guitars the solo every single time.

Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero 09/06/2026

🚜 One of the most over-the-top power ballads ever written was built for a tractor-chase scene.

When the Footloose team needed a galloping, pulse-racing number for a specific sequence, screenwriter Dean Pitchford brought in Jim Steinman β€” the man behind Meat Loaf's biggest epics β€” to write the music. Steinman knew exactly who should sing it: Bonnie Tyler, fresh off "Total Eclipse of the Heart." The result was "Holding Out for a Hero," gloriously excessive and entirely on purpose.

A runaway tractor inspired a song the whole world ended up singing. Did you know that's where it came from?
