Nobel Explorers
A Timisoara summer school for teenagers, on science that won Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.

We are pretty sure that now, our Nobel Explorers are definitely convinced that summer vacation is not a reward but a huge opportunity to learn!
Two days ago they barely knew 2-3 of the other participants but now they are jointly exploring the world of science and the contributions that David Julius, Patapoutian and Svante Pääbo brought to the fields of thermal and pressure sensing, respectively human evolution.
Split in two teams under the supervision of our two mentors, Clara Costea, an University of Galway Genetics and Genomics student, respectively Raul Radulescu, an Imperial College London Biomedical Engineering student, our participants are getting a good understanding on how scientific research is performed by best scholars, how the accumulation of knowledge over rather long periods of time marked by technology development, better circulation of and access to information, global collaborations, a bit of good luck and plenty of tireless work triggers the recognition culminating with winning the Nobel Prize.
Facultatea de Mecanica Timisoara of Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara, Asociatia One Source and OncoGen is doing a great job by supporting BioCoderDojo Timisoara in piloting Nobel Explorers, a project that we intend to massively expand during the summer of 2024!

We are ready to start exploring the Nobel science world, and especially the Physiology or Medicine part of it, with a group of 10 high-school kids:
- 6 girls and 4 boys
- 3 from 10th grade, 4 from 11th grade, 3 from 12th grade
- 8 from Timisoara and, definitely by surprise, 2 from Oradea
- 5 are studying in Mathematics-Informatics specialization the other 5 are styding in Life Sciences specializations
- they are coming from Babel Școală și Liceu, Colegiul National Banatean Timisoara, Liceul Teoretic „Grigore Moisil” Timișoara, Nikolaus Lenau Lyzeum Liceul Constantin Diaconovici Loga (C.D. Loga) - Timisoara and from Liceul Teoretic "Ady Endre", Oradea.
4-5 of them have previous successful participations to various life science competition, from national olympiades to other international events.
We'll definitely have a great time bringing our mentors, Clara Costea and Raul Radulescu amidst our participants, in order to help them build a deep learning experience on the science build by Ardem Patapoutian and David Julius exploring the receptors for temperature and touch, respectively by Svante Pääbo, bringing into light topics related to genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution.
