Here is the final nail in the coffin for Auchnagie distillery, this bridge.
Located near the ancient village of Logierait in Highland Perthshire, it spans the famous salmon river, the Tay. Boats would come up the river to supply the estates and communities here. But the biggest change happened with the Highland line opening the highland region in 1863.

This Bridge was opened in 1865 to carry trains on the Ballinluig to Aberfeldy line, which branched off the main Highland Line from Perth to Inverness. In 1890 came the opportunity for the Auchnagie owner to move production and expand into a world-famous Scotch whisky brand.
The direct line from Perth to Inverness had itself only just opened on 9th September 1863.

After almost 100 years of use, in 1964, and the branch line was closed – a victim of the infamous Beeching cuts.

The bridge is one of the few open lattice girder viaducts left in Scotland and is formally listed as a structure of national historic and architectural significance. It is also the only community-owned ex-railway bridge in the country.

Left behind in history, the now-closed farm distillery is unforgotten today with our liquid legacy Auchnagie Archivist Selection 46% non chill-filtered Blend of Single Malts
