Hello, folks,

The news I’m sharing today are not directly related to Caramel Rust, but nevertheless is about something very close and dear to my heart.

Before Caramel Rust, the musical project I created and have been involved with for more than 10 years is named Heavy Strings. It’s a progressive rock/metal band, with a softer and more classical touch, and more accessible for the listener.

Today, Heavy Strings releases the album “The Sonic Spectrum” — a collection of songs that capture the band’s musical journey across styles and eras. 🎸

If you’ve enjoyed Caramel Rust’s music, I invite you to give a listen to Heavy String’s “The Sonic Spectrum” – you might like it!

Its music is the labor of love and passion of a great team of people, that only ever made music that was sincere, passionate and true to themselves.

The album is now available on all major streaming platforms:

Caramel Rust debuts its first album - "Caravanserai".

"Caravanserai" came to be starting from some poems written during the past years. At some point, when revisiting "Celalalt Ierusalim" ("The Other Jerusalem)" poem, while reading it it sounded musical to me. From here, in a couple of months I wrote music for it and I split it into 6 songs (3 based on sections of the initial poem + 3 instrumentals), to paint a picture.

After "Celalat Ierusalim" was done, I chose more poems in which I discovered a common theme. These became the other songs on the album, with music written from scratch for each of them.

The common theme was a blend of the silk road atmosphere, oriental setting, Arabian nights lore, setting and characters. The aim was to, hopefully, create an atmosphere based on the lyrics' story, musical patterns (I studied Persian and oriental music and scales to be able to immerse myself into the soundscape - Shur, Hijaz, Phrygian dominant, etc) and overall "feeling" of that my(s)tical time and space.

At the end, I wrote the lyrics specifically for this album for two additional songs: "Jad" (Jade) and "Drumul Matasii" (Silk Road), which came to be quite easy, as by that time the overall picture and atmosphere were very clear and nuanced.

For "Cronica Sahilor" (Kings Chronicle) I used a section of the poem by the same name by Persian poet Firdousi (cca. 930-1030), the first poet to make the Persian poetry known internationally.

The music is composed throughout 2025, based on a few preexisting ideas, that were developed into some of the songs on the album. Others were written from scratch.

The main challenge of this process was the order of "operations". usually, I first write the music and then the lyrics that fit the music. This time, the process was inverse: the poems were the foundation and the music was written to fit the text, while conveying the overall spirit of the Orient. On of the fixed parameters I set for myself was that I wouldn't change the original text of the poems in order to better fit the musical lines. That in itself brought quite the challenge, especially for the singers, to be able to fit on some sections a large number of syllables and uneven lyrics into a metric that remains musical.

My fullest and deepest respect to all the great musicians I worked with on this project and to the sound engineers and the studio professionals that made this album sound the way it does, from a production stand point!

I am truly blessed to be able to make music and to have the possibility to work with some of the greatest musicians I had the pleasure of knowing.

I hope you enjoy the music and may this be the first in many albums!
