How nature turned a failed communist plan into Bucharest's unique urban park The wild wetland of Văcărești is a symbol of nature’s resilience. Without human interference, wildlife has reconquered this abandoned lake and transformed it into a green oasis in the middle of one of Europe’s densest cities

The 1906 Bucharest Jubilee Exhibition was organized in the Carol park. It had a dual significance: it celebrated King Carol I's 40 years of reign and marked 1800 years since the ancient kingdom of Dacia was conquered by the Roman emperor Trajan.
A great page dedicated to the exhibition (though only in Romanian - even so you can get a good picture of it) is http://www.carol1906.ideiurbane.ro
It presents a detailed plan of the exhibition and meticulously restored photos of it. Enjoy!
You can access also its page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Carol1906/1424581047759070

Join our Red Bucharest tour to find out more about the communist regime in Romania. We will explore also the huge area demolished during the 1980s in the center of Bucharest in order to make place to one of the biggest buildings in the world.
The area demolished equals the area of the city of Venice, Italy!
The following website lets you overlap the layout of the demolished area with maps of cities around the world: http://www.portmanteau.ro/index_en.html
