With over 40 years of experience in arbitration, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table.
As a full-time arbitrator in international commercial and investment disputes, Professor Lew has a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of arbitration practice. His past roles include serving as a partner at Herbert Smith, where he led the international arbitration practice group. Professor Lew has been appointed as a sole, presiding and co-arbitrator in arbitrations under the rules of all the major arbitral institutions and under UNCITRAL and Swiss Chambersโ Arbitration Institution rules.

Prof. Maria-Chiara Malaguti is a renowned expert in international law, trade law, and economics, with a wealth of experience in international investment law and sustainable development. As a Full Professor at Universitร Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy, she brings a depth of knowledge to her role as keynote speaker.
Her impressive credentials include serving as legal expert to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing Italy in ISDS reform negotiations, and chairing the UNCITRAL Working Group on Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises. Additionally, she holds the prestigious position of President of UNIDROIT, the oldest international organization for the unification of private law, marking her as the first woman to hold this esteemed role.
Prof. Maria-Chiara Malaguti's expertise extends to her work as a senior legal expert for the World Bank, where she has assisted over 60 countries in payment systems, financial markets, and governance.
She graduated in both Law and Economics at the University Alma Mater of Bologna, and received an LLM from Harvard Law School and a doctorate from the European University Institute of Florence.

Bucharest Arbitration Days (โBARDโ) is the prime arbitration conference in Romania.
In the era of continuous change, time has come to tackle the issue of a need for a reform in international arbitration.
In the context of a landmark European Court of Justice ruling and trends of unveiling confidentiality, currently impacting the international arbitration scene, BARD 2019 will bring together main actors from the international arbitration community in an attempt to reframe traditional limits.
