Coming in second place on our list of Top 100 Wines of Chile 2020 (and in 10th place on our Top 100 Wines of 2020) is Clos Apalta’s Valle de Apalta 2017, with a full 100 points.
This wine is created from a blend of 48 percent carmenere, 26 percent cabernet sauvignon, 25 percent merlot and 1 percent petit verdot, resulting in a wine that is “outrageous and so polished.”
“What a stunning nose of crushed berries, fresh flowers, sandalwood and light vineyard dust,” our tasting note on it says. “Very complex. Full-bodied with a beautiful, dense palate of blackberries, chocolate, walnuts and cigar box. Fantastic length and composure. The tannin just rolls over the palate."
