Alex Țilică este Concept Artist pentru jocuri video care ține la libertatea de asociere cu ce proiect Ć®l inspiră. Mai precis, este freelancer. De câțiva ani colaborează cu AMC Studio. Locuiește Ć®n Iași unde a și terminat studiile la Universitatea Națională de Arte ā€žGeorge Enescu". Trecut prin greutățile lansării Ć®n carieră Ć®ntr-un context provocator identificării de oportunități, Alex organizează "Drink & Draw", meet-ups la Iași, cu scopul de a facilita accesul la cunoaștere pentru tinerii care vor să Ć®i urmeze pașii.

✨ FICTIONART is back! ✨

The International Concept Art and Illustration Biennale returns to Timișoara this November for its third edition, and we’re delighted to be part of it once again!

Organized by the West University of Timisoara, FictionArt brings together students, professionals, and concept art enthusiasts from all around. The biennale features an exhibition, portfolio reviews, presentations from special guests and hands-on workshops.

Last year, we joined FictionArt with a 5-day workshop hosted by Dan Cocină, where participants dove into concept art for video games inspired by "Toate Pânzele Sus". It was a fantastic opportunity to mentor, connect, and collaborate with a passionate community.

Timișoara remains a leading hub for education in Romania. We’re excited to see FictionArt grow and evolve, and we remain committed to supporting both the event and the Game Art Master’s Program at Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara, where AMC artists teach Environment & Character Art.

We opened our studio to a curious crew of young wolves, eager to learn more about everything we do at AMC.

Since co-developing games comes with its own set of challenges these days, we didn’t just talk generally about it; we shared insights about the business side of things, gave them a glimpse into our ecosystem, and, most importantly, talked about the people behind the games.

Less about workflows, more about real stories. Personal growth, finding your path, learning from others, that kind of stuff.

We hope it was one of those moments that sticks with you. Something that sparks inspiration, builds confidence, and still encourages a critical, thoughtful perspective.

We recently connected with a passionate group of 3D art enthusiasts at the Art University in Iași, in the Sculpture Department, guided by two dedicated teachers, Dumitru Oboroc and Savin Mihai.

We visited them to introduce some of our 3D art for games workflows, share industry insights, and learn from their creative, hands-on approach.

A big thanks to Paul Nedelcu, Environment Artist at AMC, who spent two hours with the students—sharing knowledge and sparking some great discussions.

This feels like the beginning of a strong creative exchange, built on shared curiosity, mutual respect for each other’s craft, and a drive to keep learning together.

Bonus point: Sculpture professor and artist Mihai Savin visited AMC during the Neo Art Connect exhibition, where he showcased his own work. He got a deeper look into ours—this time through the perspective of our very own Character Artist, Toro.

We know that applying for jobs can be an overwhelming and intimidating experience. It’s our aim to offer as much help as possible, and in this case, we wanted to broach the subject of concept art.

Starting 2025 by spreading the word about our huuuge update: our new Co-Dev Department is officially starting its operations!

This brand-new chapter comes after nearly 30 years of crafting 3D art for the gaming industry. Now we’re ready and excited to bring even more talent and expertise to the table. We’re thankful to be growing faster than ever and to share that journey with our current team and community, as well as with future members!

This update will bring with it new job opportunities, particularly in software engineering, game design, UI & UX and QA. We started this recruitment process last autumn, with Eugen Sfirlos joining us in October as the Production Director for the division. If you’ve been following us, you may already know him from his presentation at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest.

Eugen comes with amazing experience, having previously been part of our sister studio from Canada, Snowed In Studios, known for their work on wildly popular titles like Diablo IV and Forza Horizon. Together, we plan to grow and leverage each other’s strengths in order to expand and bring new job and project opportunities in the industry.

This is just the beginning of a fascinating adventure of building the future of gaming with you. We’ll keep you posted with news about the division and about when the job roles will open.

Our Environment Artist, Andrei Grigore, was back at his old uni, "Ion Mincu"​ University of Architecture and Urban Planning, to dive deep into the fascinating world of Environment Art for AAA Games.

Andrei shared what it’s like being an environment artist, diving into the nitty-gritty of past projects to show what happens behind the scenes before the final product comes together. He also opened up about his own hiring experience and gave some advice for anyone looking to break into the field:

šŸ“š Find sources and tutorials and work, work, work – it’s an ever-growing industry that’s becoming increasingly competitive, and softwares keep advancing – you need to be up-to-date with them

šŸ’¼ Portfolio tips: Quality over quantity – he once saw a fence corner as a portfolio piece that was so incredibly detailed and well-made, that it showed the artist clearly understood both the softwares used and the materiality

šŸŽÆ Focus on creating work that showcases your skills and passion – you won’t like being a 3D artist if you don’t like all the steps leading to the final product; it’s also important to choose a focus at first (e.g. environment vs characters)

He also gave some practical tips for gathering references, emphasizing how essential it is to study real-life details. Whether it’s photographing a rusty car to see how rust develops or capturing cracked asphalt patterns, these nuances bring authenticity to virtual worlds.

And at the end…guess what? We found out that three students traveled all the way from Cluj by train just to attend this talk! We’re honestly humbled and inspired by such dedication.

Big thank you to Ion Mincu University for having us, to Andrei for hosting the talk, and to everyone who came out to learn and chat. It was so great to see such passion and curiosity in the room. Let’s keep building worlds together!

Yesterday, our Co-Dev Production Director, Eugen Sfirlos, visited the Romanian-American University in Bucharest to give an inspiring (we hope!) talk about the gaming industry to a room full of passionate students.

With his insightful and funny presentation, he dove deep, exploring what it really means to work in this field. He walked students through the many roles in game development, from art, design, and programming to production. He shared insights into the stages of making a game—ideation, alpha, beta, gold, live—and tackled big topics like common IP rules and marketing strategies.

And of course, because personal experience can be the best example sometimes, Eugen opened up about his own journey: how he started in the industry as a tester, the challenges he’s faced, and how he approached the role of Producer. We really think he’s one of those natural public speakers, and the Q&A at the end turned into a lively, cozy dialogue full of curiosity and fresh ideas.

As absolutely always, we jump at every opportunity to connect with the next generation of game developers, to support, educate and encourage. Huge thanks to everyone who attended, and to Eugen for sharing his experience and passion. šŸ’œ
