👋 Good evening everyone! The time you've all been waiting for has arrived... 𝒅𝒓𝒖𝒎 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆

🌍 We are pleased to announce the opening of 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄-𝐒𝐒𝐌𝐁 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢-𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬! E-SSMB holds the very important role in SSMB of uniting those in the English module with those in the Romanian module. If you have a passion for uniting cultures, educating others, sharing and working on new ideas then E-SSMB is the right fit for you.

👐Revamping this year's department of E-SSMB we will have the following mini-departments in order to help even more efficiently link English speakers with the rest of SSMB.

The departments are as follows...
📚 E-Translations: Do you love foreign languages? Enjoy helping others make their way around in a new and unfamiliar environment? Then E-Translations might just be the mini-department for you! The goal of this newly created mini-department is to further increase the accessibility of SSMB information to all students! Be that representing E-SSMB, translation promotional materials for a new SSMB event or informative posts, E-Translations will deal with translating between English and Romanian.

✈️ E-SCOPE/SCORE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchanges, Standing Committee on Research Exchanges): Have you ever wanted to go to another country and see it from multiple perspectives? By joining this mini-department you will be able to learn how to do just that, as well as help your colleagues learn how to do the same. Through the International Federation of Medical Students, through which SSMB is a part, there are a plethora of research and clinical exchange opportunities on offer!

🍏 E-SCOPH (Standing Committee on Public Health): Do you wish to be more proactive in promoting public health? Feel as if there is a strong need to educate and organise events in order to educate others in regards to public health? Then E-SCOPH might just be the mini-department for you!

🩺 E-SCOME (Standing Committee on Medical Education): Do you love helping and teaching others? Are you deeply involved in furthering your own and other colleagues' medical education? Do you love making educational content, be that doodles to help you understand something in class or a mind map? Then consider joining E-SCOME in order to help others as well as yourself in making medical education grow!

🎀 E-SCORA (Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health, including HIV & AIDS): Are you passionate about sexual and reproductive health? Do you feel as if these topics are often skipped over in health education and wish to do something to change that? Then E-SCORA is the new home for you within E-SSMB! This is an area of E-SSMB that is quite new and we would love to be able to develop it more with everyone!

🕊️ E-SCORP (Standing Committee on Human Rights & Peace): In 2024, the issue of human rights and peace in our world is larger than ever. If you wish to help educate others and work to make a difference in regards to these issues, then E-SCORP is the place for you!

🪩 E-S&C (Social & Cultural): Back again but under a new name in E-SSMB, E-S&C aims to help spread the diverse cultures of students studying medicine, as well as explore all that Bucharest and Romania has to offer when it comes to the vibrant social & cultural scene! From cultural nights to museum nights, E-S&C aims to have it all. If this sounds like your thing then come along!

🫀 The Student Assembly: Basics of ECG & Ablation 101 is a unique educational event designed to introduce students to the fascinating world of electrophysiology and cardiac ablation. You will explore the 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐂𝐆 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐜 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, shedding light on these critical aspects of cardiology.

🩺 Cardiac ablation is a therapeutic procedure used to treat certain heart 𝐫𝐡𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐦 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, like atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia. We'll teach you about the 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 involved and the role it plays in restoring normal heart function. You'll also discover the 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 used, as well as the 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 before, during, and after the intervention.

🤕 Have you ever found yourself at a dead end when it comes to certain diseases? If we are talking about subacute and chronic stroke, sometimes the recovery is little to impossible, but now it is not the case. But how, may you ask?

🗣️ Being brought to you by the 𝐄𝐌𝐒𝐀 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐨 students, this brand new device called 𝐀𝐁𝐇𝐀 works on the principles of Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) system. With the help of this system, patients can recover upper extremity movement, bringing them back to their old, daily habits. During the conference about the topic mentioned above, our guests from Ukraine will talk about the benefits of introducing this device into clinical practice and bring us one step closer to coming up with solutions regarding strokes.

🦾 Moreover, the conference will also have a practical part when you will be able to study an ABHA device in real life. | MEDCULTURE & E-SSMB - PARTICIPANTS CALL FOR VISITING THE ART NATIONAL MUSEUM |

🖼 The power behind a painting is unimaginable. It has a history behind it, but at the same time it offers the viewer a perspective that can differ from person to person. An art museum, being home to an extraordinary number of paintings, enthralls the visitor with its magic ambiance from the very beginning.

📆 Thus, the volunteers of the "MedCulture" project make an invitation to all students, but especially to those from the English module, to discover together the secrets behind some famous paintings and enter this mysterious world. On Wednesday, May 10, starting at 4:00 p.m., we are waiting for you at the Romanian National Art Museum to take part in a cultural evening full of impressive paintings, valuable information and good friends.

📜 At the end of the visit, the participants will have a quiz that will contain questions from the information presented by the "MedCulture" volunteers during the evening. Since the quiz will be held in English, we invite anyone to take part in this event!

The E-ssmb team invites you to a special Leadership Training session.

💭 Lately, the concept of leadership has become a really popular one, being discussed everywhere. But are we all born to be leaders?

🤔 What exactly does it mean to be a leader? What are the main qualities and abilities required for this? Is anybody capable of assuming this role?

❓Well, these are just some of the questions that will be answered during this leadership training.

🥼 And let’s not forget about the fact that we are medical students and we will spend the rest of our lives working in hospitals, surrounded by a big team of professionals, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, students and other health-care workers. And in order to assure a pleasant work climate for everyone and offer the best services to the patient, you should know how to collaborate with your team, how to share tasks and give feedback. We will discuss all of these aspects during this training .

| INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - EMBRACE EQUITY |

💐 The 8th of March is a day which celebrates the social, economic and political achievements of women throughout history, as well as the rights for which feminist movements have advocated.

✊ In 1908, 1500 women marched on the streets of New York to demand a shortened work schedule, better payment and the right to vote. Later, in 1911, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 4 European countries. Eventually, in 1975, the UN officially declared the holiday to be held on the 8th of March.

👷‍♀ Women constitute an essential part of the workforce and are significant contributors to both their families’ and countries’ economy. Nonetheless, they have long confronted professional disparities, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

🪙 They have lower salaries (20% on a global level, 2.4% in Romania) and less work benefits than men. These differences are even more accentuated for minority groups. Female dominated professions have been devalued. Insufficient investing in social protection policies has left women with little support in managing both work and family life.

👩‍🎓Additionally, women would have to be more qualified to obtain the same position as their male counterparts, have more work to do and are more frequently abused. Moreover, they have to pay extra for personal hygiene or clothing, a phenomenon known as “the pink tax”.

👩🏻‍🚀 Sustained efforts have led to new opportunities and rights for women, but there are still discrepancies which should not be overlooked, but corrected in order to achieve equality.

EMSA: A JOURNEY TO REMEMBER

🧭 The European Medical Students' Association, founded way back in 1990 in Brussels, is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation representing medical students from over 100 faculties in 25 European countries. Thus, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the United Nations recognise EMSA.

🗣️ The association offers a venue for high-level advocacy, initiatives, workshops, trainings, and international conferences. This translates into the work of EMSA Bucharest, which, as a branch of MSSB (The Medical Students' Society of Bucharest), gives us access to a number of practical instruments, organized by topic of interest in 6 pillars, as well as Twinnings of 1-2 weeks filled with scientific and cultural initiatives that aim to develop students' communication skills, adaptability and professionalism.

🧚 You can do some very exciting things by joining EMSA, including meeting smart, ambitious people, participating in organizing a Twinning and contributing to the production of Policy Papers, which gives you the chance to present your viewpoints to an international board. Try it!

🧑⚕️ The Public Health Pillar focuses on the prevention of disease and promotion of health, through its work with key external partners, the preparation of events such as webinars and the production of surveys and infographics.

🥼 The goal of the Medical Science Pillar is creating a student platform which encompasses many key research principles and practical skills that are essential for every future healthcare professional.

📚 The Medical Education Pillar main target is to empower medical students to be part of shaping an education that responds to advances in medicine and new learning technologies.

📝 The Health Policy Pillar seeks to accomplish its objective by inspiring medical students to participate in the development of fresh health regulations that allow people to live up to their full potential in terms of their health.

🫂 The Medical Ethics and Human Rights Pillar has the ultimate goal of supporting a patient’s best interest both physical and mental health. The main focus is teaching future generations of doctors the importance of empathy and how prejudice can affect the medical performance.

✈️ The European Integration And Culture pillar promotes solidarity and understanding, believing it is crucial to empower students to participate in European mobility and exchange programmes and to foster their intercultural understanding and compassion toward disadvantaged groups in society.

For all of you who are enthusiastic to learn more, we are organising a 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩!
