O projeto Extraterrestrial Posthumanism investiga como a ciência contemporânea, a ficção científica e a bioarte podem reformular a nossa compreensão da vida, centrando-se nas formas extraterrestres mais prováveis — microrganismos e organismos “pouco carismáticos”. Inspirado pela astrobiologia, o projeto questiona porque é que os micróbios continuam culturalmente negligenciados e combina um levantamento de representações ficcionais de micróbios alienígenas plausíveis com a criação de novas obras de Bioarte que tornam a vida microbiana sensorial e afetivamente acessível. O objetivo: desafiar o antropocentrismo e abrir novas vias estéticas e filosóficas para imaginar vida para além da Terra.

The Extraterrestrial Posthumanism project explores how contemporary science, science fiction, and bio art can reshape our understanding of life by focusing on the most likely—but least imagined—forms of extraterrestrial existence: microbial and “uncharismatic” organisms. Drawing on astrobiology, it examines why microbes remain culturally overlooked and pairs a survey of plausible science-fictional alien microorganisms with new Bio Art works that make microbial life sensorially and affectively accessible. The aim is to challenge anthropocentric assumptions and open new aesthetic and philosophical pathways for imagining life beyond Earth.

Este é o falecido Alvin Lucier, através do Surrogate Performer, está pronto para atuar esta quinta-feira à noite, às 21:00, na Ectopia, em Lisboa.

Temos estado a cultivar células cerebrais (neurónios) de Lucier nas últimas 2 semanas no laboratório do Luís Graça, na Universidade de Lisboa. Elas estão a crescer e a amadurecer, criando uma rede complexa sobre uma interface especializada que permite conectá-las a um ambiente sonoro.

Este cérebro externo de Lucier irá reexecutar a sua importante composição de 1965.

Memórias desencarnadas feitas aqui em Lisboa, nas noites de quinta e sexta-feira.

This is the late Alvin Lucier living Surrogate Performer ready to perform this Thursday night 21:00 at Ectopia, Lisbon.

We have been growing Lucier’s brain cells (neurons) for the past 2 weeks at the Luis Graca lab at the Lisbon University. They are growing and maturing creating a complex network over a specialized interface that allows to connect them to a sonic environment.

This external brain of Lucier will re-perform his important composition from 1965.

Disembodied memories made right here in Lisbon on Thursday and Friday night.
