After weeks of consideration, we decided to return to our primary mission: offer unique gifts that make sense for you and the people you care about. A gift is a message of affection, it's telling a story, showing to others that we think of them for a reason. Not because a date makes us do so. And it's with this idea in mind that we created the brand new Hug Box! It's been months since grandparents have seen our little girls and boys, same for aunties, uncles, godparents and friends... It will be complicated to travel for a few months still and we do need to give each other a hug, for real. If our little ones have had to hold back a bit on hugging lately, we need to tell them that hugs will be back soon! That's the reason why I started this business. Not because it's easier (it is not, yet) but because it makes sense to think of local ressources first, whether the shops need us or not.

Portugal is full of creative people, artists, delicious food, unique objects and amazing people who have a story to tell. Be Present wants to talk about them and reconnect their work to the people who live here, not just tourists.

For this International Women's Day, when we celebrate women's rights and achievements, I think of our little girls and all these women to come.

Especially since this year's theme is "Women in leadership", I want to tell my daughter that she has the right to be who she wants to be, to try and fail, to follow or lead, to shake up the past and try new things, to stand up for her own ideas and trust herself to bring her beliefs and values to life and, above all, to follow the path that will make her flourish as a woman.

I want to tell her every day that she can be who she wants to be, and not just today. This is my gift to her and I hope it will give her enough confidence to embark on her own adventure and not listen to those who tell her that it is not possible or that it is not her place.

As many women in Portugal create, come together, say out loud what they think is important, and I can see many of us expressing ourselves here and there, I am happy to see that our little girls will have enough rocks to lean on to dream and shine too.

As we saw at the Mercearia this morning... Easter is coming soon! Time to let ourself be tempted by some Amêndoas da Páscoa, symbol of rebirth and the beginning of a new life 🐣

A few centuries earlier, the tradition was to wrap 5 almond confeitadas in a luxurious cloth (hey!) to wish health, longevity and happiness. May be an idea for a future Be Present (and Be Sweet) box? 😉

Originally covered in honey, they got more creative with time, and even more tempting!

Our first Father's Day Box, "The Strongest Dad", is already out!! 🥳🎊💝

We have created this box for those who want to celebrate very special dads, or dads-to-be.

Strong beers, hot sauce, a cup of coffee just for him, all tested and approved by dads + a beautiful book illustrating how extraordinary dads are, always there for their little ones. Everything in this box comes from our close neighborhood, made and sold in local businesses that we want to support on every occasion.

This box contains:

Why Be Present?

Because I like surprises. And family moments. Sharing good food. Finding a beautiful object that reminds me of someone I miss and sending it to them.

I also like chocolate (who doesn't?). Organic soft fabrics. All kinds of handmade crafts. Plants. Postcards. Tea and tea cups. Notebooks. Wine and cheeses. True stories, and more... All those little sparks that make us smile, together.

Three months after launching this adventure, I would like to thank all of you, gift senders, local artisans and producers, for giving me the chance to do something I love: creating unique gifts made with the heart.
