23/03/2021

If you didn't hear it live, here's your second chance [link below]

Catch the latest episode of Weathervane on Threads Radio with special guest João Vairinhos interviewed by host Oströl, talking about his career path from band drummer to solo producer and his music making process, both for the studio and live- and how the latter has changed in Portugal in recent years. With some selections by the gues throughout the interview, the episode rounds off with a DJ set by the host, inspired by João's sonic predilection for dystopian soundscapes.

Special mention goes to Kara Konchar, whose new album was almost feauturing on both host and guest's musical selections.

Lançamentos favoritos de setembro – A Cabine 07/10/2020

"In a few words, Weathervane Recs started out as an archive of quarantined musicians, now being possibly one of the best fruits of this pandemic, and this compilation is proof of it."

Heart-warming words coming from A Cabine, as they place our fourth compilation "Ghosts Don't Sail These Shores" among their favourite releases of September.

Weathervane Recs 02/10/2020

Bandcamp day is here.

Support for our has been tremendous this far for our efforts, and a huge thank you is needed to those who have helped us this far.

As you may know by now, Bandcamp is solidifying itself as a musician-friendly plaftform for streaming and selling. Furthering this, today, on Bandcamp day, it is waiving its fees received from sales in favour of artists.
From our side, we have placed some of our previous compilations for sale on a "pay what you can" basis, as a thank-you gift.

The response to this project has been as much of a positive surprise as it has been rewarding and encouraging. Without it 4 compilation releases in 5 months would have never been possible.

Thank you

Here's how the wind is blowing
"Ghosts Don't Sail These Shores" [WTHR004]

A fourth Weathervane compilation is here, bringing musicians together from Portugal, Poland, Brazil, Japan, the UK and US.

Under the genre of ambient we meet, each bringing a different approach to the table, from dark to light. to echoes of dance music.
These releases began as a way of keeping the music community engaged and connected in times where hope was a scarce commodity.
Now, almost 6 months later, things are slowly looking up for many, and yet many musicians are still in a highly precarious position. This is our way of- at the very least- getting artists motivated to keep doing what they do best.
6 months later and here we are, still hoping to give hope.

Massive thank you to those who have supported us this far.
Profits to be shared among the artists involved who need it most.

The third Weathervane compilation of quarantined musicians is dedicated to the experimental side of dance music, exploring how the drive to dance can inform new ways of sound creation. Slipping through a closed door reserved to conventional and commodified dance music, experimental producers have found a way to find a unique voice and share it a growingly interested and open audience. With the impact of covid lockdown, one can only work towards seeing that work preserved and bloom again.

Weathervane is a project that started as a radio show on Threads Radio featuring Lisbon musicians opening up about their work and jamming with Oströl, the host. The aim is to facilitate openness in an industry where competitiveness and individuality are easy to recede into, instead promoting the sharing of ideas, methods and -ultimately - music.

These compilations are no different, and if openness was needed before lockdown, it is needed now more than ever.
