𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝗜𝗜 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Cristina Pedro took part in The INC 2026’ Parallel Paper Sessions on June 19th.

Under the theme 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴: 𝘈 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘺-𝘌𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦-𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘮, Cristina explored how sensory stimuli shape tourists’ emotional responses and contribute to the creation of lasting memories in active sports and nature-based tourism settings.

Her presentation highlighted the growing importance of designing tourism experiences that go beyond activities themselves, focusing instead on how visitors perceive, feel, and remember their interactions with destinations.

Ana Maia Fernandes, Lab Technician at ABC CoLAB, participated in a Tandem Talk along side her PhD supervisor, Professor Raquel Andrade, at the ABC-Ri Sciminars on June 19.

Ana did her PhD at ABC-Ri at the temporal control of cell differentiation laboratory. In this talk, they highlighted the role of gene expression oscillations in biological systems, from development to disease.

THE INC 2026 - Tourism, Hospitality & Events International Conference – is taking place at the Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Algarve , from 17-19 June.

Co-organised by Universidade do Algarve UAlg , University of Derby , Northumbria University and their research centres - CinTurs - Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being , CBI - Centre for Business Improvement, and EPIC Research Centre - this conference brings together researchers, professionals and students to discuss the future of tourism, hospitality and events.

ABC CoLAB researcher Cristina Pedro participated in the Parallel Paper Session “Wellness, Health & Wellbeing”, presenting 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦: 𝘔𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘚𝘱𝘢 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴.

Her research contributes to advancing the understanding of holistic health in wellness tourism by proposing a measurement framework that supports the design and evaluation of evidence-based wellness spa experiences.

Preventing abuse against older adults starts with awareness — but it cannot end there.

As societies continue to age, ensuring that older people can live safely, with autonomy and respect, becomes increasingly important. Abuse in later life can take many forms, including emotional, physical, financial, and social harm, often affecting those who face isolation or limited access to support.

Building age-friendly and inclusive communities means strengthening the networks, services, and protections that help older adults remain safe and supported — particularly when ageing intersects with disability, dependency, or social vulnerability.

Today is an opportunity to reinforce a shared commitment: promoting dignity, protecting rights, and creating environments where older people can age free from abuse, neglect, and discrimination.

Moderado por Lurdes Carvalho, o debate centrou-se no Turismo de Saúde e Bem-Estar — um dos domínios da EREI Algarve 2030 — com foco no seu potencial de inovação, diferenciação e competitividade para a região.

Na sua intervenção, Cristina Pedro destacou o papel de ativos estratégicos como a atratividade do destino, a qualidade das infraestruturas e a crescente capacidade científica e de inovação do Algarve, bem como as principais tendências que vão moldar o setor:

Nádia Silva, Investigadora no ABC CoLAB, apresentou o projeto ABA – Estudo Imagiológico do Envelhecimento Cerebral na População do Algarve, liderado pelo ABC-Algarve Biomedical Center, no dia 25 de maio, na Biblioteca Municipal de Vila Real de Santo António.

Promovida pelo Gabinete Municipal de Saúde do Município de Vila Real de Santo António , esta sessão foi integrada no âmbito do projeto Cuidar de Quem Cuidou - uma iniciativa do município que visa promover o envelhecimento ativo e saudável da população idosa local.

Durante a sessão, Nádia Silva esclareceu os utentes do projeto Cuidar de Quem Cuidou sobre os objetivos do projeto ABA e lançou o convite à participação voluntária no estudo.
