A commemorative €2 coin to be struck.

22nd APRIL - LAUNCH OF THE COMMEMORATIVE COIN OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 25TH OF APRIL

On Monday, April 22, Banco de Portugal will release the coins into circulation.
There are 500,000 commemorative two-euro coins to be distributed during the Carnation Revolution celebration period.

“Distribution to the public will be carried out through the banks, Banco de Portugal treasuries and Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda stores”, reads on the Banco de Portugal website.

On the coin, a carnation and 50 lines are drawn to represent “the different ideas and projects that were born that day”, accompanied by a phrase from a poem Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen - “Esta é a madrugada que eu esperava” from the poem “O Nome das Coisas”.
