Background
The Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies (RCHRS) was established in Ramallah in 1998 by a group of scholars, researchers, lawyers and human rights activists who saw a need for the promotion of democratic values among the Palestinian people. Since then, RCHRS has been guided by a commitment to respond to this need and we remain at the forefront in supporting a culture of human rights
, democracy, equality and tolerance in Palestine The principles of tolerance and human rights have become the main pillars of RCHRS’s work. RCHRS’s main activities include theoretical and applied research, community projects, educational programs, outreach and advocacy work. RCHRS also documents and raises awareness of human rights violations in Palestine and advocates for the need to safeguard justice and fundamental freedoms for all. We also publish the quarterly journal Tasamuh (Tolerance) and the monthly student newsletter Free Education. RCHRS’s projects and publications are now reaching thousands of university students, academics, and activists as well as other members of Palestinian society and the broader Arab world.
نبذة عن المركز
مركز رام الله لدراسات حقوق الإنسان تأسس عام 1998 من قبل مجموعة من الأكاديميين والباحثين والمحامين والناشطين في قضايا الديمقراطية وحقوق الإنسان. وهو مركز مستقل لا ينخرط في أي أنشطة تؤثر على استقلاليته وحياده.
يسعى المركز إلى نشر ثقافة وقيم التسامح والمواطنة المستندة على مفاهيم ومبادئ حقوق الإنسان التي أقرها الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان، ويلتزم المركز في ذلك بكل المواثيق الدولية ذات الصلة، وبإعلان المبادئ بشأن التسامح الذي اعتمده المؤتمر العام لليونسكو في السادس عشر من تشرين الثاني من العام 1995 في دورته الثامنة والعشرين.
ويهدف المركز إلى تبني مداخل علمية ومنهجية لتأصيل وترسيخ مبدأ حرية الرأي والتعبير، ونشر وترويج مفاهيم الديمقراطية وحقوق الإنسان في الثقافة الفلسطينية.
كما يهدف المركز إلى دعم ومناصرة الحقوق التعليمية في فلسطين ودمقرطتها، وتشجيع التعليم الحر ومواجهة السلطوية في المؤسسات التعليمية والدفاع عن الحريات الأكاديمية.
يتمتع المركز بعضوية الفدرالية الدولية لحقوق الإنسان، وعضوية شبكة الحد من سوء استخدام الأسلحة الصغيرة، وشبكة الحقوق التعليمية والأكاديمية، وشبكة المنظمات الأهلية الفلسطينية، وعضو لجنة تنفيذية في شبكة تكامل للشباب، ومنسق الشبكة العربية للتسامح، وعضو مؤسس للرابطة العربية للديمقراطية، ويشغل منصب نائب رئيس فدرالية مراكز حقوق الإنسان في الدول العربية.
