Participation of community members in the decisions and actions that affect their health means their substantive participation in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.
Community participation in primary health care has particular relevance in emergencies, which community members are often first responders.
Our colleague Walter Flores is co-author of new article that reviews the range of community-driven interventions and strategies implemented in response to shocks in Latin America and the Caribbean. The article identifies 14 types of interventions across three domains - participation of community health workers, community engagement, and mobilization of CSOs - and analyzes factors enable or hinder implementation.

On , we celebrate the work of Multiply-Ed Philippines: Youth citizen monitors aiming to make the education sector more transparent and responsive to the marginalized.
Last week, monitoring took place across five high schools, with G-Watch Lanao Del Sur - part of a much wider networking and advocacy initiative.
Youth monitoring serves as the backbone of data and information on gaps and issues being faced by schools – from the perspective of school facilities, students and teachers. It is the foundation of planning and advocacy for more accountable education systems.
Multiply-Ed is an ongoing project of Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking together with G-Watch (Government Watch) Student Council Alliance of the Philippines. It involves hundreds of young people working together and leading the way to responsive education services - inspiring work!
