Update: First, thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Lulu, her foster family, and adoptor. Thank you for sharing and showing so much interest in our small rescue.
Second, to answer some questions here. Yes, we do screen applicants, do a vet check, home visit, and only adopt out healthy animals (unless it is a chronic condition the adoptor knows about). Lulu was placed in a very loving home. It met all requirements. Flea prevention was discussed. Hartz was not discussed because other plans were made. Lulu was 16 weeks old and weighed 4.5lbs. Under the weight, but as per the vet, not enough of a difference. This product is sold over the counter and does have a chance to kill almost instantly. It was applied because Lulu was scratching and the adoptor was fearful of fleas. We will continue to voice our opinion and tell what happened to sweet Lulu to everyone who will listen. It is your right as consumers to make your own decisions for your furbabies. We pray this never happens again.

We have some sad news to report. While our volunteer should’ve been celebrating the Fourth of July we were all mourning the loss of Lulu. Serena drove her to her new home and spent almost 2 hours with her new owner. Within 2 1/2 hours Lulu was dead after this flea medication was applied. Quote from the owner “she was fighting and fighting me and she went limp, I tried to give her CPR, nothing worked” she later advised us she was even bleeding from her gums. It is of our opinion that this flea preventative should be removed from sale permanently. There are many many stories of pets dying after this being applied. Hopefully Lulu’s tragedy will help save another life. We will be contacting Hartz to let them know of her death.
